I am asking you and wondering aloud here - if members who happen to ‘pay’ for rooms by using either Marriott points they have earned by purchases, stays, annual one night free stays granted by virtue of carrying a Marriott credit card .... are treated different than patrons who paid on that night by plunking down a credit card.
So I redeemed a night to stay here on this occasion. Without question - I was treated differently than others who I could only surmise paid cash for their stay on the same night.
How and why could I infer this, then say this? As follows:
I was in the lobby by the fireplace on 2 occasions through the night just taking in the atmosphere to be away from it all ... reading a book or having a drink. I was chilling out within clear earshot of patrons checking in - during the timeframes of 4:45 - 5:15 and then again in the 8:30 - 9:00 timeframe.
For patrons checking in - they received a ‘warm greeting,’ were offered a Marriott check in reward of either points or just some water bottles or offers of something from the fridge instead (of being offered/ given points), and 2 individuals were offered extremely late next day check out times
those individuals were acknowledged by name, and with language like ‘you’ll be paying tonight by credit card, we have XYZ information on file’
I am here to tell you - none of the language or examples I note immediately above - were offered or extended to me ... even though I asked for water and later checkout... as to checkout I was told Gold members did not get that at this particular Marriott hotel ...
so ... okay, fine, if that’s the case as to how members can receive services from one Marriott to the next - that’s fine, but heck, tell your members that - - versus marketing what would otherwise be the ‘benefits’ of being a Marriott member and what you can or will receive with ANY stay, regardless of MANNER of payment ... and in my case, being a ‘Gold Member,’ whatever that is supposed to really mean).
I can spend an annual credit card fee and my time at other places to stay if that’s the case, or prioritize my spend on an Airline rewards credit card with a fee instead.
Honestly, I think the difference in my case is both implicit bias toward how people on staff perceive you ‘pay’ for your room, and / or lack of awareness of your chain’s policies. Again - if that’s how you roll - that’s fine ... just let me know so I can figure out how to...

Breakfast was hot and plentiful and check in was quick and easy. No acknowledgement of Marriott status. The fridge was the best kind to have and actually kept our food/drinks ice cold (even froze our water) which isn't always the case. Noticed a fire pit and tables out front and if it wasn't raining probably would have had a lot of use. Location was perfect to see the area and plenty of parking in the outside lot and underneath hotel. Signage was hard to see at night as it was not lit up and set back from road in the trees. Food nearby as was gas, grocery store, Ben & Jerry's, and a quick 15-20 minute ride to Stowe.||Our room, 210, seemed quiet for the most part until we noticed after 7pm pounding from above. Not sure what it was but eventually it ended and didn't bother us again. The last morning, about 4am, we noticed again noises from above on and off, almost like someone was dropping a bowling ball repeatedly for about 2 hours. We called to let the front desk know and they said well the gym is open 24/7 and we can't control the noise from there. I didn't know the gym was above us (it wasn't, we looked). When we looked to see what was above us noticed there were two mechanical rooms among other guest rooms. So I'm not sure why we were told the gym was above us (it's on the first floor). We weren't completely disturbed by it, more annoyed at when it was happening. When mentioning it again at checkout, I was told I could just request a different room next time with an apology about...
Read moreBeautiful location. Sneaks up on you if you're driving 50... when you see the sign for Shaw's, start to slow down and look to your left. If you're coming from Ben and Jerry's, slow down and look to the right.
Randy at the front desk was a great help, very accommodating, and answered any questions we had during our stay. After a 5 hour drive up, this was exactly what we needed upon arrival (as well as the hot tub...)
Rooms were clean, and everything was well maintained.
The hot tub and the pool were by far our favorite amenities this visit.
There is a free breakfast bar with hot food, cereal, build your own oatmeal station, pastries, tea, coffee, yogurt, juices, and many other options. Everything was tasty but get it while you can - the food goes quickly past 8am.
There is a small, limited parking garage under the location, which you can access directly from the elevators... this was so cool and helped us A TON upon checkout with speedily packing up our car.
Only con was no bathrobes or slippers - which is not a big deal and may just be location dependant. These would have been nice for moving to and from our rooms to the hot tub, but just bring some flip flops, and you'll be fine.
Overall we were very happy with everything this location had to offer, the staff was extremely pleasant, Randy was a cool dude, and the property was beautiful. This is in the perfect spot for a home base to hit all of the local attractions big and small, and we will be coming back to continue...
