The Lodge has a brand new restaurant inside. Seems that Swadley's BBQ has bought out the restaurant inside and replaced with Swadley's Foggy Bottom Kitchen. Brent Swadley, his dad Ron and sons Kolten and Keaton all got together with the State Tourism and Recreation Department in 2020 and open up their new restaurants Foggy Bottoms in different State Parks.
This year they've opened up at Roman Nose in Watonga, Ok and Lake Murray in Ardmore, Ok. There coming soon to Sequoya in Hulbert, Ok, Beavers Bend in Broken Bow, Ok and Robbers Cave in Wilburten, Ok.
At Roman Nose we entered the Lodge and Foggy Bottom has completely redone the inside and outdoor seating area. It looks like a cabin nestled inside the Lodge with outdoor lanterns hanging. We went up to the attendant, requested seating for 6 people and she grabbed our silverware wrapped in cloth napkins and paper copies of the menu. There were three sheets of paper with the Breakfast menu which listed the drinks available, a Lunch menu and a Special of the day menu. She quickly apologized for the menu copies and went to seat us.
I was taken aback at how unique of an idea this was. It was just like walking into a cabin filled with booths and tables, with camping, fishing and trail decor on the walls. The South wall had some windows for the cabin, the North was a huge windowed wall showing the outside patio seating with overhead lighting. On the West wall was a fireplace that when lit would make this cabin look so warm and inviting. The overhead lighting inside was surrounded by a tangle of antlers. We chose two booths.
We all wanted to try everything so for starters we ordered 2 of the loaded cheese fries and an onion ring stack with our drinks. Kendall was our waiter, though many others came to check on us as well. The onion rings a were a little spicy for me, but my boys loved them. We knew the place just opened so it didn't shock us when they said they had no chicken fried steaks or chicken tenders...burgers and fries it is! Everyone absolutely loved the food except for my son-in-law Jesse. He ordered the Monte Crisco, a think sandwich cut in fourths with fried okra. I took a bite and it tasted like it has some kind of donut-type bun. The menu said something about raspberry? A lady came just in time to asked how we liked the meal. Of course, he was the first to say anything. He asked that the meal be removed and ordered a Winchester burger instead. The manager, Channing Miller came out and apologized about the sandwich and asked if he could put it in a to-go container for us free of charge. Jesse reluctantly said that would be fine.
The service here is impeccable, I couldn't ask for any better. The food was delicious and very filling. The ambiance is cozy, quiet and so peaceful. It would be nice to come back and enjoy that beautiful outdoor patio to eat out under the stars and soft lighting. I will definitely be back here to enjoy more. Great...
Read moreI went to stay at a lodge one night. First room toilet broke a couple hours after I checked in. I was moved to a new room. Heater didn't work and the TV didn't work either because their satellite and signal was not working. There was no TV signal and no channels at all. I put the heater on 76 and it blew cool air. Then I put it on 86 and then 90 degrees an hour later and it still blew cool air. Reported this on paper immediately. The next morning during checkout Carla at the front desk was rude to me. I approached her and she glared at me in disgust. I said "good morning" to her first. She said "hey" and acted indifferently and unfriendly to me. I asked her if the manager received the complaint then asked her why she was not friendly to me. Her response was her manager didn't tell her what to do or say and she wasn't sure how I would react. If that was the case, why didn't she ask the manager what to do. Instead of making me feel better about the situation, she made it worst by being unfriendly to me and acted like it was my fault the toilet, heater and TV didn't work. When I left, she wouldn't look at me and stared at her Kindle e-book. Very unfriendly and no good customer service. I requested a manager to talk to me because I wanted to talk about this to her before posting a review online. It's been several days and I waited and no call from the manager which is why I am writing this. The lodge rooms look nice, but the customer service sucks and there are problems that needed to be fixed before renting...
Read moreWe had an absolute blast at Roman Nose. My husband camped with my boys, nephews and my brother. We rented one of the teepees and it was as cute/cool as you would imagine. It was great for pictures 😍 but my husband did say he was nervous about the fact that the bottom of the teepee has room for a snake to crawl up into it if it wanted to. And you are sleeping on a big concrete pad so pack a comfy sleeping mat if you decide to brave the snakes. The teepees are all pretty close to each other and two of them are right by the lake where you can rent paddle boats and canoes. The campsite is across the lake from the rental area though so it does feel secluded. Us girls drove to meet them for the day. We had a nice campfire breakfast and then headed over to rent paddle boats. They are $5 per person for an hour and 6 and under are free. You rent boats from the general store where you can also buy mining kits for the kids to sift through at a little mining station that they have. We had lunch at the Foggy Bottom restaurant in the park and it was so good. The burgers were amazing. The sweet tea chicken is so good and the pie and ice cream for dessert really hit the spot 🤤👌 We finished the day by going on a hike that left right from the restaurant. They have maps at the restaurant if you need one. It was a wonderful day...
