Beware of Shorebirds E146. My wife and I just spent a week at Pajaro Dunes Resort. The setting is great the the amenities plentiful. However, due to a mixup we wound up in unit 146 instead of 145. Both units are about the same size with two bedrooms and two baths. My daughter and family also rented a similar unit and paid $2,000 for the week. I paid $3,000. I called Sara who made the original reservation to see if anything could be done. I left a very courteous voice mail but she never returned my call. Although the unit was very tastefully decorated is was lacking in basic items you would expect when you are paying $3,000 a week. When we arrived we could only get one channel on the TV. The next day a member of the maintenance staff came by and fixed the issue but it only lasted a few days. While he was there I showed him a very leaky shower head in the master bath. He took a picture of it so he could order the right part. When we left a week later the head had not been replaced. There was only one old beach chair and no umbrella. The gas grill was old and rusty but it made no difference since there was no propane. The patio set consisted of one cast iron table and two cast iron chairs. Hardly comfortable and certainly not enough for a two bedroom condo. This unit gets one star and that is because it it well furnished. One minor point. When we checked in we were not told about any of the amenities, tennis courts, b-ball courts etc. But the staff did give us a wine basket and late check out for our troubles. I would recommend the resort as a place to relax and get away. The landscaping is great and natural. It is a large resort and I was surprised there was no restaurant. That would have earned it 5 stars but E146...
Read moreI'm writing about Shangrila Pajaro Dunes Ocean Front Condo Between Santa Cruz and Monterey/VRBO #844476/Pelican Point 37 The place is simply the best in the resort! We spent one week in the Shangrila Pajaro Dunes Ocean Front Condo and had a fabulous time there. The condo is just beautiful. It has a wall window ocean view and is very stylish, immaculate and very well organized. Jane has thought of every little detail for her guests. The bed in the bedroom and the sofa bed are very comfortable. The kitchen is well-stocked and easy to use. The ocean is about one minute from the door, and the beach is enchanting: many birds on the shore, sea lions passing by, and otters hanging near the shore. I saw an otter in approximately the same spot for three days. You can walk on the beach for hours, which is precisely what we did. There are very few people, and sometimes you are alone on that gorgeous beach. Shangrila Pajaro Dunes Ocean Front Condo is about a 20-minute drive from Santa Cruz and 30 minutes from Monterey. We explored the area and also spent some days just around the condo. We had our long coffee and wine breaks on the balcony (gorgeous views!) and strolled along the beach. Jane is a very attentive and efficient host. Communication was effortless, prompt, and personal. Jane responded almost immediately when we had some questions. All directions and rules are clear and manageable. When you arrive, please read the materials in the binder, and you’ll get all the necessary information. I’m recommending it to anybody: it can be a great romantic spot for a couple, a fun getaway for friends or just for one person, or a comfortable ocean vacation for a family with up to two children. We will be back at Pelican...

This is our second trip to the charming Pajaro Dunes Resort and I can confirm it remains as enchanting as our first visit. The rustic condos exude an irresistible charm, cozy and well-appointed, nestled amidst a backdrop of awe-inspiring natural landscapes. The views alone are worth the visit!
The resort staff are simply top-notch. They're friendly, professional, and always on hand to assist with any questions or requests you may have. They truly elevate the Pajaro Dunes experience, making you feel cared for from the moment you arrive.
One of the most notable aspects of Pajaro Dunes is the serenity of the beach. No overcrowding, just unspoiled sands for you to savor. It's a breath of fresh air, both figuratively and literally. Plus, the respect that guests and staff alike show for the protected wildlife areas surrounding the property speaks volumes about the ethos of this special resort.
A fun tip - don't forget to drop by the gift shop! It's not just a spot to pick up any forgotten necessities, but they also offer delightful free cookies (a treat we certainly relished). It's these little touches that make Pajaro Dunes stand out from the crowd.
