Just returned from a weekend spent celebrating our first anniversary. First and foremost, the location is wonderful, not only for its scenic views, but also for its proximity to a number of excellent wineries and breweries in the area.
The Farmhouse at Veritas is located on the grounds of the Veritas Winery. Included with your stay are complimentary tastings at the winery, as well as discounts should you decide to purchase bottles of wine. The winery can be crowded, especially on a Saturday, so I suggest going early or later in the day.
We stayed in the Somerset. Though I was initially concerned that its location right off the "Gathering Room" would make it a bit noisy, the room was actually very quiet. In addition to the Gathering Room closing at 9pm, there was extra soundproofing around the door to insure a peaceful sleep. There were ample windows, providing natural light and views into the gardens. A bottle of wine and two glasses were waiting for us upon our arrival, as were a few chocolate truffles.
Breakfast was provided each morning, with water, fresh squeezed orange juice, and sparkling wine. A croissant and fresh fruit were served upon being seated, and we were presented with two main course options, one sweet and one savory. Sweet options included pancakes one morning and a peach and berry cobbler the next, while savory options each morning were a potato hash with breakfast meat and an over-easy egg. We tried most of these options, and were thorough satisfied with each one.
Each day also includes a wine hour, with a number of bottles of Veritas wine available as well as a small plate of charcuterie, and each night a plate of cookies was set out (the oatmeal-raisin were delicious!).
While breakfast and the wine hour are included in your stay, we also opted to do the Farmhouse Dinner. Though the menu changes weekly, I highly recommend this additional luxury. The four-course meal is paired with a selection of Veritas wines, and served in the Garden House. The beautiful view of the sunset along the Shenandoah Valley is not to be discounted.
All of this is to say that the amenities and food are wonderful, and well worth the cost. But with a number of bed and breakfast establishments which could advertise equally good food and amenities, I offer you this one reason to choose Veritas over the others: the staff. Every member of the staff went out of their way to help us during our stay there in any way that they could. The evening of the Farmhouse Dinner, my wife began feeling ill during dinner (please note that this had nothing to do with the dinner!), which forced us to bow out after the third course. The staff boxed my wife's remaining portion, and placed our dessert in the refrigerator should we choose to eat it later. While that was all very nice, we were taken aback the next morning when the owner came by to check on my wife and comped our dinner. Every member of the staff checked with us the next morning to see if she was feeling better.
At The Farmhouse at Veritas, you get what you paid for, and then some- scenic views, proximity to many local wineries and breweries, excellent accommodations, and...

My husband and I recently spent four days at a yoga retreat at The Farmhouse at Veritas, and it was truly one of the most peaceful, rejuvenating experiences we’ve ever shared. Nestled in the quiet beauty of Virginia wine country, with serene mountain views and easy access to the Appalachian Trail and Skyline Drive, the setting alone was enough to reset our souls.
Each day began with a gentle yet invigorating yoga flow session and ended with deeply restorative yoga in the late afternoon—both led by knowledgeable, attentive instructors who created a welcoming space for all levels. It was well worth getting up by 8 a.m. to enjoy yoga with Julie in the beautiful, all-window Garden House (and then with Mia in the afternoon). Between classes, we enjoyed personalized guided hikes through breathtaking landscapes. The hikes were led by knowledgeable and friendly locals who tailored the experience to our group. Mia, Julie, and and Moby kept us moving and safe while teaching us new terms like "forest bathing" and the meaning of wabi sabi! We also had the option to relax with a massage instead of yoga or a hike.
The meals were an absolute highlight in themselves: farm-to-table freshness, creative dishes, and seasonal customization. From fresh, flavorful breakfasts to exquisite four-course wine-pairing dinners, every bite reflected the care and passion of the excellent chefs. As an added delight, we wore our active leisurewear to all our meals (though some people dressed up a little for the final dinner).
The chef's cooking demonstration and winemaker's cellar tour were both fascinating, informative, and fun. The French press coffee each morning, made with a special Shenandoah Joe Veritas blend, was unforgettable, as were the fresh-squeezed orange juice and afternoon carrot-ginger juice. Oh, and the cookies… quite possibly the best we’ve ever tasted! The only downside was they were always available!
The farmhouse rooms were quaint, charming, and full of character—each one unique. Whether you're a couple, a mother-daughter pair, or close friends, this retreat is perfect for reconnecting and unwinding. By the end, what started as a group of strangers quickly became a circle of friends. The family who runs the vineyard made everyone feel welcome, and everyone felt like they got to personally know Patricia, who even hiked with us! The whole experience had a warm, personal touch that’s hard to find.
We left feeling refreshed, grounded, and incredibly grateful for the experience, people we met, and the time we spent together. If you're looking for a peaceful retreat that blends wellness, connection, delicious food and wine, and the beauty of the Blue...
