Not sure a written review can do "Wild Man Dan's" and the hosts real justice!! You truly have to experience this place your self. I wish too that I could give this property more than 5 stars!
We chose "Wild Man Dan's" for our long weekend away with 2 other couples for several reasons, close to Nelson151 and also the great motorcycle riding nearby! I was hooked on "Wild Man Dan's" before I even got there just from talking to Terri on the phone and via email, she made me feel like a great friend from the start.
When we arrived the welcome we received was fantastic and right away we felt at home! Terri gave us a quick tour of the house showed us all to our rooms and made us feel right at home. We all enjoyed sipping a beer and chatting with Dan and Terri in the bar area before we headed out for an evening at Blue Mountain Brewery. Right off of Nelson151, "Wild Man Dan's" is less than 2 miles to Blue Mountain Brewery, a quick drive to Devils Backbone, Wild Wolf and Bold Rock Cidery along with at least 4 wineries and a couple distilleries. 5 minutes from the B&B and you are on the Blue Ridge Parkway or can hike Crabtree Falls and Humpback Rock. Great location for everyone!!
Terri is an amazing chef and the breakfasts are to die for, both days we had just yummy food from Chicken and Waffles to Quiche to the most fabulous Beignets! She uses all local ingredients and fruits too. And she is very good about special likes and dietary concerns. Your breakfast menu is posted in your room the evening before, your mouth will water all night waiting for the next morning! Off the dining area the back porch is a fantastic place to have your morning coffee and discuss the upcoming days events!
The house is so tastefully decorated and is not frilly or Victorian which always turned me off from a lot of other B&Bs. The rooms were very well decorated with a twist of modern while maintaining the history and beauty of the home. No traditional B&B doilies or uncomfortable squeaky beds are found at "Wild Man Dan's! The rooms also included wireless internet, blue tooth speakers and many more homey touches! The bathroom was wonderful with a heated towel bar and plenty of room something you don't always find in an old house, our bath had both a tub and a separate shower. It was all very clean!! It was also well appointed with everything you needed including beer soap and as we discussed with Terri the towels were super soft and very absorbent!! we learned that she had gotten special quick drying towels so they don't harbor bacteria!! I am telling you that Terri thinks of everything!!
In the evenings we sat around the new fire pit with the hanging hammock chairs and just had so much fun laughing and making new friendships with the hosts as well as the other guests!!
On Monday when we all left I felt like we were leaving old friends, Terri and Dan are just the nicest most welcoming people!! We are excited to go back later this fall and visit again with them and enjoy more of the...
Read moreRecently, we booked the Wildman Dan 1870s farmhouse for our family Christmas trip! Due to COVID, Wildman Dan's has switched from the more traditional B&B model (renting individual rooms) to the renting of their entire home. We were able to stay with eight family members - and there was plenty of room for all! The house is also thoroughly sanitized between stays, so there was no concern there.
Having the use of the kitchen was also wonderful as we were able to bring our own groceries and supplies. Working with Terri for a catered meal was also as simple as could be - she worked with us to create a "first night" meal of Chicken Fajitas that was perfect for members of our group with dietary restrictions & provided an excellent breakfast for our first morning there. She also had many more meal options to choose from! So, if you don't want to cook - this is an absolutely amazing option to have at your disposal.
As for the rooms, each bedroom is well-appointed with comfy beds and linens. The bathrooms are spotless and there are several group spaces where you can socialize and hang out. The dining area has been broken into several smaller eating areas so that guests can keep some distance during meal times. Guests also have access to outside areas such as the fire pit and Terri and Dan were wonderful and kept us stocked with firewood and fire-making supplies.
Last but not least, the beer! Dan and Terri supplied a keg of Wildman Dan beer for inside the house - which was delicious (& convenient) AND they also were able to host a beer tasting in the Brew Barn. Inside the brew barn, there is enough space for couples to spread out and still taste beers. We had a great time sampling brews during one night of our stay.
If you are looking for a safe place to travel with your "pod," look no further than Wildman Dan's! Terri and Dan are amazing hosts and truly make you feel like you are one of the family. They have thought of so many amazing amenities to provide, and if you are interested in something they don't have listed - they will work with you to make it happen! As a 5x guest of Wild Man Dan's I highly...
Read moreIf I could give it more than five stars, I would. Down to the smallest detail, Terri and Dan exhibit top-notch hospitality. I've stayed at B & B's around the globe and have to admit this is my new favorite - and I'm not even a beer drinker!!!! I brought my boyfriend here for a surprise birthday weekend for him. Terri came outside to greet us as soon as we pulled into the driveway and cheerfully showed us the amazing house. Dan was at the bar with a glass at the ready for us! My boyfriend lauded the beer, and Terri was more than happy to give us recommendations for wineries, cideries, and breweries to explore during our stay. Terri and Dan share a wealth of local knowledge and are expert guides. The house itself was incredible. An old farmhouse style, the guest rooms are enormous and adorned with unique decor all Terri's own style! We stayed in the 2 Row room, which comes with the jacuzzi tub (incredible). Everything is updated and in excellent working condition, from the environmental controls down to the towel warmer in the bathroom! There was a trio of other couples our first night who we got to know sitting under the gazebo (and on our second night in hammocks around the fire pit!). Dan and Terri are amazing hosts and are happy to hang out with and get to know the guests. Their commitment to creating a unique, welcoming atmosphere cannot be beaten. Then comes the breakfast - again, simply amazing. Terri derives her meals from locally sourced ingredients, which just makes anything taste better. She can easily work with any food allergies if you email her ahead of time, which I did. Everything we had was filling and delicious. I cannot say enough good things about this B & B. We will absolutely be...
