This is a decent place to stay close to Glacier National Park, but it does have it's issues.
LOCATION Stanton Creek Lodge is located just 15 minutes from the West Entrance of Glacier National Park. Unfortunately for us there was a big fire in West Glacier when we visited which required at least a 2.5 hour drive to the East entrance. There is also not anything else near the lodge, it is quite isolated.
The lodge is right next to some train tracks, so expect trains going by at least every hour. It is also right next to the highway, so you get the traffic noise as well. I sleep with ear plugs and my husband sleeps through everything, so this did not really bother us.
ACCOMMODATIONS The cabin itself is quite clean and well decorated. The bed was plenty comfortable and we were happy for the heat, mini fridge and microwave. It is a cabin so do not expect reliable wifi or a television. The wifi did work fine from the bench outside our cabin.
We did get one of the cabins that required use of the shared bathroom. The bathroom situation is where this place lost a lot stars for me. We have stayed in cabins with shared bathrooms before and been just fine. In this situation, there is only one toilet/shower for women and one shower/toilet for men.
The first night we arrived late from a long hike and were desperate for a shower. This was the night, however, that the lodge waitress and cook decided to hook up in the women's bathroom. I waited outside for almost an hour listening to their music among other noises. Finally I knocked on the door and they eventually left the bathroom one at a time.
The bathroom has enough space for more than one shower, but only has one very tiny one. Not sure how often it is cleaned, but there are constantly dead moths and dirt clods on the floor. The other uncomfortable part about the bathroom is that the facility's washer and dryer are located between the women's and men's room and do not have an external door. This means whoever is doing the laundry must access it via the women's or men's room. This led to some uncomfortable moments while I was using the restroom and noticed the side door to the laundry room was open and I could hear a man coughing on the other side. I closed the door, but was very nervous that someone might come bursting into the women's room while I was there.
THE LODGE We only went into the lodge once for breakfast. The breakfast is pretty good for $10, but the lodge itself is pretty drab. It is really more of a bar than anything else.
COMMUNICATION The phone to the lodge rarely works. I tried to call on several occasions, a few weeks in advance of our stay to confirm our reservation and a few nights before to request a late check-in. Each time I called the phone beeped twice and disconnected. I ended up sending an email and the host responded same day.
OVERALL This place is a good value for being so close to Glacier, however, we will likely not stay here again. If you do choose to stay here, I recommend getting a cabin that has it's own bathroom instead of dealing with...
Read moreTravelers beware! This place is a dump! That might be an understatement. We booked one night on July 4 in a Deluxe Cabin. These cabins are far from deluxe except have a private bathroom. However unless you are a child you cannot sit on the toilet properly and have to sit sideways. The private showers are operated on very small water heaters. By small I mean expect 2-3 minutes of hot water tops before pure cold water. Now let’s get into the facility. This place is solely a local hangout which is fine. I’m all about supporting local Montana establishments except when locals drinking bud lights and cheap mixed drinks take over the place. We had dinner at the main lodge. Menu is simple few sandwich options and couple fried food options. During our meal a local was speaking very inappropriately. It never offended us at all but clearly offended another woman who was with her husband having dinner but nobody working said anything to the gentleman who was speaking inappropriately. So we booked this property to get our dog out of city limits to avoid fireworks. I called and spoke to the property directly a couple of times before arriving in addition to check in and never once was it mentioned plan to have a firework show the evening we were staying. In addition, they had a live band playing literally 20 feet outside our front door of cabin until 10:30pm and fireworks went till nearly midnight. Never did we know any of this was going to happen until it started. I would have loved to complain to facility the next morning but nobody was at main office at 8:45am when we checked in. However, the fireworks from night before were still all over along side the main road in addition to some beer bottles and empty glasses. Again I’m all about having a good time and supporting local business. This place turned a establishment usually geared towards hosting travelers into a loud local party when if that’s what they wanted they should have shut down reservations to cabins and just had a private...
Read moreThis place is a mess. We were double booked and there was no after-hours number to call. It has no wifi or cell coverage plus it's incredibly noisy. They advertise it as luxury accommodations but it is absolutely not. The 'private bath house' includes two rooms with a shower, toilet, and sink. That is it... 18 cabins with an average of 2 people each trying to use the showers and toilets. NO OTHER TOILETS unless you go to the Tavern that is only open certain times a day. Ridiculous. It is implied in the listing that you have wifi in your cabin/dome but that is not true. The Tavern is the only place with service.
The lady checking in before me had a reservation and an email confirmation but they couldn't find it. The lady that was double booked with us had a reservation the night before but when she arrived from Phoenix they told her it wasn't for tonight but tomorrow night, even though she had a confirmation email proving it. I would be very careful in trusting this operation.
I brought this up to them and they did nothing nor would they discount our stay. The stress and anxiety that is caused when we realized that we were double booked was awful. Plus the fact that the other guest was already treated horribly by them the night before.
And when I say it's noisy... it's awful... Trains, semis, and big trucks going by all night long. This is the worst lodging experience I've had. I would not book a place here unless you are desperate. Definitely not worth the price I paid.
On a positive note, the Tavern serves great Mexican food. The highlight...
