If you don't want to read my detailed review below, here's the short version: Wonderful, comfortable place to stay in Lancaster. Kind and helpful owners offering suggestions for dining out and recommendations for places to go and things to do. And the breakfast is out of this world!
We stayed 3 nights at the Cardinal's Roost for a family wedding which we extended for a long weekend. Picked this establishment based on online reviews and when it was named the Australian Walkabout. The current owners bought it under that name and recently rebranded to more suit their style. Happy to report that all those 5 star reviews were accurate and frankly, I'd add at least a couple more stars based on our experience.
We arrived to owners Christena and Allen greeting us warmly. After settling the bill, Tena discussed breakfast and asked about allergies/dislikes and what kinds of juices we drink. Breakfast is usually at 9, but Tena and Allen offered to serve earlier at 8:30 because we had a morning appointment. Tena then took us up to our adorable, comfortable, and well appointed room (Jade Vine) and spent time with us going over the amenities and how things work in our room. We asked for a dinner recommendation and their suggestion was perfect.
After a good night's sleep, a three course breakfast awaited. My yogurt allergy was accommodated by substituting a ricotta/cream blend in the parfait served as the first course. I had told Tena to just give me the fruit plain, but nope, she whipped up this deliciousness. So thoughtful. Course 2 was the fluffiest scrambled eggs I've ever had, plus a homemade waffle, and bacon from a local farm cooked well which is what I said I like when we checked in. We were stuffed and took our 3rd course of two slices of chocolate chip loaf to go. We snacked on it later in the day and wowee so good (I need to get that recipe!).
The next two days' breakfasts were equally stellar. Knowing I don't like sausage, I received bacon instead. And they even tracked down the orange/peach/mango juice my husband had mentioned as impossible to find, but they found it and served it just to him. Talk about being spoiled! (Another recipe I need is the lemon loaf served at our last breakfast - outstanding!) They were equally accommodating and thoughtful to all the other guests with their dietary needs and wants.
Breakfast also include lovely chats with Tena during which we learned about the history of the inn and how she and Allen came to be the owners - fascinating story. This young couple are gems of human beings and innkeepers. We wish them nothing but the best and huge success!
Literally as I was booking another stay at the inn, a thank you email from Tena and Allen arrived in my inbox. No, thank you, Tena and Allen, for a fantastic stay, great conversation, all your tips and recommendations, and those...
Read moreWhat's not to like about this quaint B&B outside downtown Lancaster? The hosts were friendly and helpful in every way, and to say my stay was memorable is an understatement! My wife and I got the prenatal pampering special, and everything was thought through - the hot tub was even set to 100 degrees (safe for pregnancy) before we arrived! I also regretted not bringing a romantic movie for the night, and while we didn't have time for it, the inn has a large collection of romantic movies on DVD at the front desk!
We stayed in the McLaren Vale and it was spacious, comfortable and beautifully decorated with classic furniture. The included hot tub was a great way to wind down for the night, and is located in the sun room, where I spent a few hours sitting and relaxing, reading and watching the sunrise through the curtains. When it came time to sleep, the bed sheets are noticeably thick and super soft, just to touch them was relaxing.
The in-house massage is worth taking advantage of - it is run from the top floor. The girls that were called in were very talented - the massage was not just simple relaxation, but the wife and I both got long overdue deep tissue work. It did not take long for my breathing to become relaxed. At some point a moth did sneak in, but it eventually left and we were almost too relaxed to notice!
Coming back from the massage we found a plate of chocolate chip cookies and milk in our room, prepared by the 14-yo daughter of the hosts. They did not last the night they were so addictive! They were only matched by the excellent muffins for breakfast in the morning, which included fresh fruit, bacon and french toast. The Keurig had a great selection of chocolate/tea/coffee for everyone's tastes, and I appreciated that at breakfast, everyone ate together and we had a nice chat with Bob, the chef and owner. I did not feel in any rush to leave, even if it was later than normal for my routine!
Overall, our trip was so peaceful, and everything so comfortable, I am sure we will return when the opportunity allows! My only regret was that we didn't have another...
Read moreThis was one of the nicest places I have ever stayed in. Not only was the room and the place nice, the owners were absolutely amazing! When my mom and I arrived, we were greeted by Christena, the new owner who showed us the main area and up to our room. She greeted us like we were already friends and made us feel so comfortable. She even asked if we had any food allergies or things we didn’t like, which was so considerate and appreciated. The bed was sooooo comfy and they had put a coloring book and markers in the room to use, which we totally took advantage of and little additions like chocolates and bath salts for the tub were above and beyond. As far as the food, let me tell ya, so good! They make these fresh baked cookies which are literally too good to describe, you just have to see for yourself! Breakfast was awesome and filling and different. We are going back to the area next year and are already planning on booking again. Christena and Allen, you...
