I've been camping there for several months off and on. You can stay up to 14 consecutive nights in any PA State Park Campground then are required to pack up and leave for 2.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, the restrooms are cleaned well once a day (I cleaned the mud out of the showers several times at night) which doesn't bother me. But ladies, seriously, if you found mud in your home shower would you use it, clean up after yourselves! Oh and the women who leave piles (big ones) of hair, you're gross.
I went hiking daily gathering kindling, (easy to find) wild blackberries, wine berries and pine cones (they smell awesome when burning). The staff gave me tips on where to find these items. The rangers are awesome people and helped me get to know the park surroundings.
Update I spent 6 weeks from September into mid October assisting a couple of the Rangers tracking and ultimately trapping several wild cats and kittens. Mostly me tracking the moms whereabouts and feeding them. We managed to capture the Mom and her 4 beautiful kittens and a couple of other adult cats. All have been fixed and the kittens are up for adoption at PetSmart in Hanover, PA. They're all boys and are getting big & handsome. A huge thanks to Heavenly Paws for taking such great care of them.
My experiences were amazing and I would recommend this...
Read moreCould really be a nice campground. First time stayi.g at this park but have spent time in many PA state park campgrounds. Could use a little more maintenance. Rules seem to be more like suggestions. Didn't bring my dog since I couldn't get a pet site, but people were camped with dogs in every area of the campground. Hosts don't really seem you say anything about anything. Noise levels at night have been an issue on several nights. Lots of people drinking and getting loud. Not really being problematic, but way too loud for 11 pm in a campground. The yurt is smaller than most I've stayed in. The site isn't layer out real well. It could be pretty awesome if they move things around differently on the lot. Obnoxious noise levels from the pool / pavilion area really take away from the enjoyment if it. The timber doodle roughing area looks like the best part if the campground. I'll probably give that a shot another time. Wood is far more expensive than other parks I frequent. Only bagged hotsticks available from the camp store, but other local options outside the park for reasonable wood prices. All in all, not a bad park, but could be...
Read moreAbsolutely memorable experience! If you are part of a verrrrrry large family or have many friends and can’t afford a vacation rental, you just reserve 5 sites, set up all the tents and beer coolers in one site and use the rest for parking. We had over 40 people all at one site. Quiet time is at 9 but we were up carrying on till 1am with flood lights, cars running with our high beams and all- even after the rangers dumped out our coolers of booze. Luckily more of our family came from NY at 11pm and brought more so we were good for a few more hours. Your kids can bring their bikes and refuse to move when cars come. It’s very safe- we just yell and swear at people when they look our way. Definitely a memorable experience. From what the staff say, this is happening every weekend so reserve quick. Heck, there were 3 larger groups like ours just in loop A. Two groups from Bmore and one from NY. Oh and one last note, ignore the rules about dogs for...
