Long post alert!! My family and I have been camping here for decades. I used to love coming to Flint Creek. It always had a rustic charm about it… but it has completely gone down the drain, and I couldn’t be more upset. I will officially be removing FC from our list of places to camp and will no longer recommend it to anyone.
Two years ago, my family camped here, and we were disgusted. The park has become this exclusive place for the apparently elite park goers. Their first-come first-serve section is utterly ridiculous. Two years ago we were told that it would be changed and that people would no longer be allowed to permanently leave campers there, jogging all of the spaces. This weekend we were told that the park went back to allowing it. (Guessing those folks complained and got their way) Still looks like a trashy trailer park.
Campsite- The site was so badly overgrown with grass that we had to get a weed eater to cut it ourselves so that we could sit at the table and eat. Trash everywhere. The pads are so washed out that it was almost impossible to get our camper leveled. (The paved sites are no better…)
Golf carts- these have gotten ridiculous. People ride them 24/7 throughout the park, blocking the roads when they want to ‘visit,’ blasting music, KIDS driving them irresponsibly. One passed by us filled with teenagers openly smoking marijuana. I had to explain that to my young children.
Bathhouses- The first night we arrived, there was no toilet paper in any of the bathrooms in the Kahaka section. When I stopped at the office to ask about it, the not-so-friendly worker told us that people steal the tp, so they usually don’t put any in there. I was told that someone would come check it out. After FIVE days, nothing. No toilet paper, and the showers were disgusting. Overflowing trash, broken shower heads and nozzles… disgusting. My mom and I tried SIX different bathhouses before we found one decent enough to shower in.
We had heard that lots of new things and improvements were coming to the park since we last camped there 2 years ago. I can tell you for a fact that not a single of those new things has been added, and the state of the park and facilities has WORSENED. I would really like to know where all the money goes?? If these permanent campers are allowed because they bring in a steady flow of money, where does it go because it obviously doesn’t go towards maintaining the park. Oh wait.. it went towards building a bridge for golf carts to get to the local convenience store.. priorities.
Thanks for the memories FC, but you can keep your ‘improvements.’ Like I said earlier, we will no longer be returning, and I can recommend places that are much nicer, cleaner, more family friendly, etc. Try Lake Lincoln in Wesson, MS. Very small, but clean, friendly staff, and family friendly!! Or McLeod on the coast. Much better places than this glorified...

We’ve camped at Flint Creek for 18 days this year—two 2-week stays and a weekend. It’s only 5 minutes from home, so we use it like a staycation while I still commute to work.
What we love:
Location is unbeatable for locals like us.
Gate staff is always kind and professional. Huge props to the ladies working there!
Disc Golf (Cheona Trails) is a fun, challenging course. We’re new to it, but had a great time—until we got barked at by a park employee for driving our golf cart through the picnic area on the final hole. We weren’t causing damage, just trying to finish the course. A respectful heads-up would’ve been appreciated.
Safety: We’ve never felt unsafe, even during crowded holiday weekends.
Nature & wildlife: Trails are peaceful and well-used. Love sharing the outdoors with the animals.
Cleanliness: Park grounds are generally clean. We pick up trash when we see it—leave no trace.
What needs work:
Roads & sites: Many campground roads are in rough shape. FCFS sites are very unlevel and overgrown. Sites in Mohawk and Seneca should be upgraded to full hook-up, especially given the price.
Maintenance: Our site (59A) had overgrown grass the whole time. Fencing was falling apart, and the steps into the water were dangerous—roofing nails sticking up where shingles had come off. My wife slipped and cut herself. Meanwhile, we often saw multiple park employees in trucks sitting and watching traffic, instead of tackling visible maintenance needs. There’s a lot they could be doing with better direction.
Bathhouses: Terrible smell. Grimy. Doesn’t look or feel truly clean. Painting over dirt isn’t cleaning. Needs deep disinfecting and real upkeep.
Message to Pat Harrison Waterway District: This park has serious potential. It’s close, it’s beautiful, and it’s staffed by some great people—but unless real improvements are made, we’ll probably camp at Paul B. Johnson SP next time. Rating: 3...
Read moreUpdate: Came back for our yearly august trip that got delayed due to the temp and burn ban. Burn ban was unfortunately still in effect and it got chilly enough a campfire would've been nice. Also we were not able to get our usual sites together and we're spread through the park. It was still a good experience, as always we stay in the RV section but only have tents. One group does rent a cabin, but I've never been in one. I didn't hear anything bad other than bring your own bedding and maybe a mattress pad/topper. Sites were clean, although the one I was staying on was hilly and basically ended up in the drainage ditch (def checked the weather). We had several families between 3 sites, with one by the beach. I'm guessing it's being remodeled, but the restroom by the beach was locked up the duration of our trip. The other restrooms were in cleanish, working conditions. Everyone enjoyed themselves. Between here and PBJ, this is by far the superior campground. The sites looked better and we're not as close together. Even with a mostly full park and ppl even having Halloween decorations out, it felt less cramped. Interactions with the park rangers were night and day. They were helpful instead of harassing us. We were admonished for not having our dogs on a leash, but that was it. Saw them driving around but they let the guests be. No complaints about 'too many units(tents)' @our sites. Everyone agreed this was the better experience, and a highly recommended campsite in general.
My first time here. Just did primitive camping with several groups. The group I was with does this every year. Got a site next to the beach. We brought all our gear but there are rentals nearby. Except for all the canoeing, jogging, kids and dogs it was very relaxing! One odd thing was while there were plenty of birds, we did not notice any squirrels...
