Our stay at Mystic Quarry was WONDERFUL! We went with two other families (6 adults, 8 kids under 8) and it was everyone's first tent camping trip (with the exception of myself who grew up camping in the Austin area). I did a lot of research into tent camping + amenities at sites (I was not looking for a super primitive park as we needed this to be young kid and first-timer friendly) within a 2 hour drive from North Austin including state parks and private sites and settled on MQ for a few reasons. It did not disappoint.||We stayed at tent camping site 16 for two nights, which was probably my favorite of their power + water sites. Those sites are tucked away on the back of the property, off the road, which is nice, with a little open area and pavilion between them and some of the tiny houses/cabins. Our friends had sites 15 and 14. The site is large and therefore became the group hangout spot. It accommodated an extra large tent, three tables, our vehicle, and all of the camping chairs around the fire just fine. The campground was clean, the charcoal grills worked fine (we cooked breakfast and used the stovetop espresso maker on the grill) and the fire pit at our site -the other two sites needed some pit TLC- while just a ring of random rocks, was a good size for cooking (we cooked dinner and breakfast, hobo pockets, s'mores, and used the stovetop espresso maker on the fire pit). There's also a lidded trash can at each site which was wonderful as they also emptied it each morning. The creekbed backs up to the sites and water feature was close which was perfect for keeping our littles entertained a lot of the time and shallow enough to not feel the need to be super cautious. The "hiking trails" were beginner and kid friendly, short and sweet, good for morning walks or scavenger hunts with the kiddos, and basically outlined the property. The quarry was simple and close but you could potentially have your group out there for campfires and it had a large outdoor screen with seating for maybe a movie or presentation or something. At night it was quiet for the most part, although since it's relatively close to the highway you can hear the cars, and we saw a fox and some deer, as well as a cute cat and the hens/rooster that normally roam but were cooped by the garden as they were slowly being picked off by the fox. The staff was friendly, and while I didn't get the pleasant man's name that checked us in Friday afternoon, I had interactions with Monica a few times and contrary to previous reviewers, she was friendly and patient. Paul, who was the ground's maintenance guy, was extremely friendly, especially towards our kids. He happened to pull up on his cart while we were out and about and let them help collect algae from the waterfall with him, let them into the chicken coop to feed & pet the chickens, and into the hen house where they helped collect eggs. The bath/shower rooms were a short walk, fully functional and clean, and mostly updated with good water pressure, etc. and had a functioning outdoor sink and laundry room attached. The little shop was great for gifts, quick snacks, and some essentials if you were missing anything. We did not use the hot tub or pool, but we hung out on the little play structure and hammocks next to the bocce ball, as well as the sand volleyball pit where the kids spent a decent amount of time with the sand toys we brought. There were also more lawn games next to the outdoor patio connected to the check-in/gift shop, and board games and sports equipment inside. The little "retreat center" with the ping pong/pool table and seating was small and subpar with some equipment missing and a broken net, but with the other amenities I'm not sure how often it gets used anyway unless you're meeting indoors due to weather or group activities. All of the buildings have key codes to enter for safety, it's gated, and there is also plenty nearby to drive to for things to do or grocery shopping, etc.||Overall we VERY much enjoyed our stay and will...
Read moreWow!! This place is a must. From the above and beyond service, plethora of amenities and prime location, this is a WIN/WIN! My husband and I did a weekend trip down to New Braunfels to float the river, mountain bike Canyon Lake and see a concert at the Whitewater Amphitheater.
Mystic Quarry’s location is perfect. You’re minutes from the river, and Shanty Tubes picks you up from Mystic Quarry so you don’t have to worry about driving and parking or standing in line for a tube. AND you get tubes for a discounted price!
We signed up to be shuttled to the Whitewater Amphitheater and BOY was that a dream. The Parking for the venue is a nightmare and was backed up for miles. Do yourself a favor- stay at Mystic Quarry and get shuttled. When you’re ready to be picked up (AT ANY TIME), simply send a text and within minutes the shuttle is back for you- or stay until the end! Either way.
Let’s talk about the actual resort. The owners struck gold with the idea of offering literally any type of accommodation you could think of. They’ve covered it! Primitive camping for $10 a day to awesome trendy tiny houses, it’s all there. Whatever you choose, all the amenities are included. We got in at 8pm just in time for the live music In the main area. Surrounded by strung up Edison style lights, tiki torches, hammocks, horse shoes and Adirondack chairs to name a few, it was the perfect scene. Colorful Adirondack chairs can also be found on the sky deck for star gazing along with the chairs on every porch.
The office area is adorable. They’ve got all sorts of swag for purchase, treats as well as ice for sale, drinks, Knick knacks, etc. There is an awesome little play ground and cute lassos for a couple of wooden cattle Incase you want to brush up on your roping skills. They’ve thought of it all!!
When we were waiting for the shuttle to pick us up after the concert, we were standing with the owner (she had a clipboard with all of Mystic Quarry’s concert-goers to make sure everyone got back safe and was accounted for) and she was Sharing with us their upcoming plans to bring an outdoor movie theater/amphitheater area to the Quarry- see pictures of that area attached.
We stayed in The Pflugerville cottage and it was perfect. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the blanket was light but Warm, perfect for summer. The room was very clean and fresh, spacious and loved the vintage style sea foam colored fridge. The effort and attention to detail put into renovating this place is apparent and impressive. We also loved the amount of natural light for the room. There were so many windows with quality wooden blinds we didn’t need to turn the lights on except at night.
In conclusion, WE WILL BE BACK. Over and over again. Can’t wait to bring our daughter! Thanks Mystic...
Read moreEdit: Updating my review to 5 stars. Had a very nice conversation with Jim the owner, who took the time to not only read my review, respond in writing to it, but also follow-up with me in person. These owners truly do care about their customers and want to make sure everything is okay for you. I've been to other parks where even just the slightest "offense" to them meant war! Not these guys. They genuinely took my constructive criticism to heart and already had plans to address the minor things I mentioned. And I really appreciate that in a park. It's honestly not that common. Breath of fresh air.
