Yikes! When it comes to hotels, I've stayed in some not so great places. I've stayed in Howard Johnsons in San Diego. Motel 8 in Phoenix, Best Western In Tampa Bay, hostels in London. I think you get my drift.
Winter Park Mountain Resort takes the cake. Where do I start...
Check-in Haha. There's a front desk with a dude in jeans. Who seems high on that rocky mountain weed and useless when it comes to key information about the area. He'll hand you a key and direct you to the 2nd floor restaurant that makes its own hours. Yep, you arrive at 8 pm during a snow storm, and you're hoping to grab a sandwich or literally anything edible, but the restaurant closed 2 hours early....just because. But there still serving booze at 8, just not food. So they'll recommend another place in town (15 minutes away). But guess what?...yep, also closed for food. Drinks until 2 am, though.
The Rooms I thought I was in a horror movie. There are clumps of rolled up hair laying around. Too many holes in the sheets to count, no comforter (when its 15° out), sheet only, lumps for pillows, coffee pot and coffee, but no cups, and no soap in the bathroom or anywhere for your hands. Shampoo and conditioner are available if you dare venture into the moldy bathtub.
Microwave and condiments are available, but bring your own plates.
Fridge in each room that freezes EVERYTHING!
The door to the room doesn't lock. Scary, right?!?!
The walls are soooo thin you hear your neighbors sneeze, walk, talk, and do EVERYTHING else. If you know what I mean. Uhhh.
Parking Good luck! Parking is free. Thank goodness because there isn't anywhere else to park. However, spots fill up, and you're left to find/make your own spot. Fingercrossed your vehicle doesn't get stuck in all the snow.
Activities A ski mobile company will start setting up shop outside your room around 7 am. Hope you aren't planning on sleeping in.
Don't forget anything. There's no gift shop, gas station, or grocery store for many miles. Not exactly sure how far. I only know we NEVER saw any the...
Read moreIf I could rate them lower than one star if would be appropriate.||Beware: Winter Park Resort will offer you trip insurance thru Spot. Today is 09/04, I booked in August of 2025 for a Christmas week trip. I did purchase trip insurance in case of any unforeseen circumstances. Winter Park charges for the insurance and collects money for insurance at time of reservation. I was told that the ENTIRE amount of this booking would be refundable as long as I canceled 22 days PRIOR to the arrival date. I canceled today well in advance of arrival because Winter Park and Spot sent me toggling between their central reservations and to Spot ins . To resolve an issue. I received an email this am saying “action needed”. I was confused by this and called Winter Park who then told me to contact Spot. Spot told me that it was 1 day TOO late to add travelers. So why didn’t anyone tell me this sooner and why would I then be charged for something I didn’t get? ||I called Winter Park again and told them just refund me for everything, this is dishonest! It is a scam and rip off! Winter Park then told me that “the insurance was non-refundable! “||This is unacceptable! ||It was Winter Park who collected the insurance money. That being said, it then IS responsibility for setting up their travel insurance. ||They refuse to take responsibility because Spot is a 3rd party that WP contracts. ||Then why would I pay Winter Park the insurance money? Today I was told that I had 10 days from reservation date to contact the insurance company, create an account and add travelers?Today is day 11 and they refused to let me add travelers but will not refund the ins money paid to winter park?!|| If this is the case, then I should directly pay Spot insurance and know I am immediately getting a service I paid for. Winter Park resort is ripping people off for HUNDREDS of dollars. Don’t stay there! In the future, if need ski lodging and a pass, I’ll be using Epic and totally avoid ikon resorts....
Read moreMy family LOVED this place! While some of the restaurants still struggled with opening due to lack of employees as all businesses after COVID, it was well worth the trip. My 11 and 21 year old daughters had never truly experienced snow until this trip. The Coca Cola tubing was awesome! While snowmobiling was out of this world!! Wished I would have thought to take my skinny-mini a blanket, as she rode tandem with me, and we couldn't go as far up as we wanted because even with many layers on, she was frozen!
The gondola ride to the top was just beautiful, even though the whole "the gondola closes at 4pm" but "ride the gondola to the top after 4pm to have dinner at the restaurant on top" still to this day confuses us. Hopefully next time we will have a chance to plan dinner on top of the mountain if you can truly go up after 4pm! This was just a long weekend trip over New Years, so we look forward to coming back for at least a week when the kids will have time to take lessons and really get into skiing!
The ONLY CON, and why I gave this place 4 stars, is I could find only one set of condo's have walk-in showers for disabled people. How often places forget that disabled people still do go on vacation with their non-handicapped family members and need accommodations that suit the whole family. So I had a further walk (which isn't good for me) to get to the main village, but I wouldn't have stayed home, that's for sure. Just wish the shower was large enough for them to put a bench in, because I require it to sit down to wash my feet. Sort of hard pouring shampoo on the floor to swish your feet around in it to get your feet clean, especially without falling when you have an amputation! Maybe in the future they will upgrade to provide more ADA accommodations so us handicapped family members can enjoy watching our family have fun doing sports we can...
