Winter Northern Lights Motel — Hotel in Winter

Our party of three couples rented rooms for a 3-day ATVing weekend. This motel is right on the Tuscobia trail and has ample room for parking with trailers, Rooms were spacious with two double beds. The motel and furnishings are very old, which we expected. There was a small frig and microwave. Motel is within walking distance to a gas station, which has a small convenience store. Also within walking distance of restaurants, bars and a small co-op grocery store.||||The motel has a lockbox system, which made our late arrival very convenient, so we didn't mind that no one was in the office when we arrived. However, the office wasn't open at all while we were there, or at least not when it was convenient for us. We were not able to pay for our rooms individually, and ended up leaving the charge on the one credit card that reserved the rooms. The beds were pretty hard. Two rooms had cobwebs in the corners in both the main area and bathroom. On the second day, we did not have any maid service. We had to call the office to request that clean towels be delivered, which they did while we were out to dinner. The trash was never emptied and the beds were not made - just new towels delivered.||||I don't mind too much that the motel room is old and ugly, but cleanliness and good service are required. Some of the low review scores are unfair. This motel is IMPECCABLY clean every time I stay and the service is great. I've traveled around the country on the company dime and walked into situations so bad I had to demand a new room at hotels that cost MANY times as much as this and have TERRIBLE service to boot. Yeah, it could be updated. I don't care, this is full service lodging in a town of 313 people, come on. And all my neighbors have always been either people traveling for work or hunters and or fishermen (who are early to bed and early to rise.) It's nice and quiet. Our party was there for a family funeral. The room was very clean and when we decided to stay less time than originally planned due to a work event popping up, the staff was very accommodating in adjusting our reservation. This is a budget motel and if you go in with that in mind, you will be satisfied. Yes, some things could be updated. However, for the price we paid, we got two fully functional rooms with working appliances and sufficient comforts for a short stay. All in all, it was a good value for the money and we would stay here again if in the area.||||I would have been inclined to give a higher rating had they had anything but double beds...
