Lumen Nature Retreat — Hotel in Woodstock

Hello, My family and my sister in law stayed there for 2 nights, 3 days ! We got 2 CABIN HYGGE, Its absolutely amazing, beautiful and the comfort is what made me choose there for a camping experience. The place is gorgeous no doubt about it ! Everything is really nice, easy check in and out, the convenience of the cabin it self, the only few dow sides for me was the fact that once I parked my car near the trees the foul smell off pee was insanely strong. On the very first day around 3:30 pm we had our kids all excited to explore and they were all trying to survive the stream of water whiteout a fall so they are between 8 and 13 years old, they are naturally loud but were a bit more been goofy and having fun, both me and my sister in law was also in the water watching them, the guy who works there called our attention to be less loud, I did notice that on line it stated the noise control to be in fact from 10 pm to 7 am so 3:30 ish should be ok, not too bad - he still said to be mindful of others! A lot of guests from that side had left already not sure how many was occupied! We called the kids down and spoke to them. The sad part about it is that the family who works there making the cleaning of the rooms has 2 or 3 kids with her (school vaccination time) they were for times UNATTENDED, running around and been loud as well and the little boy was only 6 years old. I felt that if it was music loud he would not call my attention but because it was kids screaming maybe was enough for the guy who works there to do so. I felt it wasn’t fair when their kids were just doing the same and even worse unattended. So I dont recommend for family with kids, more like a couple or adults stay ! The loft bed is extremely low from the roof, NOT comfortable. The stream of water site is almost unbearable to walk in, slippery and you can twist really easily! Gotta be careful there ! Beautiful view though! So the experience was very nice, we loved it but for the price we paid I would not do it again ! It could be really really nice for adults and couples though! For kids and teens there is not much to do, it gets boring easily! To be fair this is my honest opinion! We loved but for the price I would do something...

“Cabins” have no running water, no sinks, and no toilets. The toilet house that one would think is only for the tents they offer is far away and hard to get to in the dark. The cabins are so close together you have ZERO privacy. One expects to have no toilet or a sink at a tent, but when one pays over $500 a night for a TINY POORLY DESIGNED JOKE OF A HUT, one expects to at least have running water and a place to use the bathroom and some privacy. They represent that you can make a meal there, but there’s nothing that allows you to do that. The refrigerator is so small there’s no place to put anything. Maybe a few bottles of water.You would have to carry any dirty dishes up to a common area just to wash them. The heating surface which was minuscule was locked so you could not use it because it was locked. This place is an absolute JOKE for what they charge. Beds were miserable. Pillows were miserable. Sheets were not nice. I would’ve rather slept in the car. I barely slept a wink all night and woke up with a backache and a crick in my neck.River is dried up with no water and dead trees in it. The website misrepresents everything about this place and the pricing is absolutely absurd! IT’S OBVIOUS THEY ARE HAVING PEOPLE FILL THEIR REVIEWS WITH FIVE STAR REVIEWS BECAUSE NOTHING WE SAW OR EXPERIENCED WAS AS DESCRIBED IN THE FIVE STAR REVIEWS and we paid for what was supposedly the nicest of the options there. It was basically a tiny trailer with glass on the front that was backed up to a river that is dried up. We had neighbors on one side that we could see right into their trailer and hear everything they were doing. We had people behind us and on the other side of us that we could see and hear the entire time. The one directly next to us was probably 20 feet away. Do not waste your money. Do not rely on the false reviews. The only thing that’s any good for is if you stage it like they do on their website to do a Instagram post of the groovy little fireplace hanging from the ceiling that is also a joke. Let me start by saying a need a redo, my trip wasn't as relaxing as I hoped it to be.

I liked the barrel sauna better because I could dip some water from right by the lake.

The water surrounding the cabins was so clear and pretty.

I loved having my little tiny house experience in the cabin.

My kid liked playing on the banjo/ instrument that was in the cabin.

The bed and pillow must have been really comfortable because I don't remember falling asleep.

4 stars for service because I couldn't figure out how to work the stove, which could have totally been user error and not actually an issue with it but that made me sad for dinner after deciding to cook because the two places that I wanted to eat that were supposed to be open were not open sadly (we went in April during the off season).

The bath house was cool, my transfer said the water pressure was good.

I will look forward to coming back to actually be able to sit down and enjoy listening to the water move in the lake and be still to actually disconnect.

I like that you had the game and books in the room.

I really like the kettle you had in the room.

Once I figured out the map, it is smaller in person than it looks online.

Make sure to pack your flashlight first in your bag, don't be like me and forget it, although they do give you a lamp.

Overall, it's kid friendly, pet friendly, highly recommended for couples, BUT make sure to have a plan for your food before you get there.

I definitely won't be trying to cook anything the next time I go.

I also didn't really like the options at the price chopper grocery store, so I would try the other one that they recommend.

If it matters, for those that made it this far, of you're of African American decent, don't be afraid to try this out. I felt perfectly fine and safe as a single black female with my mom and two kids.
