On our New England fall foliage 2 week trip, we started in Boston and drove up the east coast to Acadia national park and then drove south through other states and stays on our way back to Boston. When booking lodging, most of the places we stayed were quaint inns. When looking in Woodstock I found this motel and was very intrigued! It was in the outskirts of town, saying it was in a quiet area along the river without the street noise and business of the town itself. And it was a small retro motel complex. The pictures of the retro furnishings looked fun and very different from anywhere else we’d stayed. Plus our room had a microwave, coffee maker, and very small retro red fridge. None of the many other places we’d stayed in our journey had any of these things. As the time f our arrival approached we got several notifications saying this was an Ohana property (a chain) but the word meant “family” in Hawaiian and that’s how they planned to treat us. We arrived late at night. There was no front desk. We had a keyless entry to our room which was ok. We were also advised there would be no housekeeping during our 3 day stay. But there was a community room which was amazing. Walk in room with a small ice maker, and 2 rooms of cabinets and drawers with extra towels, toiletries, assorted plastic plate ware, free snacks, and a large cabinet of what seemed to be guests left over condiments and non perishables which were all available to take as you needed. Plus since this was a pet welcoming motel as well there was dog food, and bowls to use. There was even a drawer of small tools. When I needed a pair of scissors I sent my husband on a search. All he could find was a sewing kit but it indeed had a pair of scissors! It was a very fun and funky out of the ordinary place to stay out of the norm though weird to never be in contact with a real staff person though they left us a contact number and said they’d respond asap. Our last day we had some unopened cheese and other unused food products we didn’t want to waste. The housecleaning man was coming to our room as we were packing and he said he’d take these items to add to the others in the community room. As to the river and quietness—not so much. There were Adirondack chairs on the grassy front lawn across the street from the river which you couldn’t see due to high brush. And in further look the river was a rock bed due to drought. And the main 2 lane highway ran right in front of us. We heard highway noise, though not unbearable, all night. BUT all in all this is a super, out of the way, unusual, clean, comfortable, and unusual place to...
Read moreNestled just a few minutes outside of Woodstock proper, you'll discover a hidden gem situated across the road from the Ottauquechee River, the Sleep Woodstock Motel. This is not your typical motel, rather a play on the motel-idea into a slightly modern boutique experience. The new owners have done a wonderful job of renovating the space with fresh, bright colors, and lush bedding. Sleep Woodstock is situated along Route 4, and though you will hear the cars and trucks pass in the daytime, by evening all you can hear is the gentle rush of the river washing over the rocks. I was in town on business and staying for 14 nights, and my client offered to move me to the more traditional Woodstock Inn after my first week, as it is directly in town, and a room became available there But I preferred the tranquil energy of being a few minutes outside town, of being able to park right in front of my door, and to hear the river in the evenings while sitting out on the porch and comfortable chairs provided. The housekeeping staff does an amazing job of refreshing the room each day, and they use natural cleaning products, so everything smells great and organic, non-chemical. You can tell that the owners take pride in this boutique motel experience they have created. It is an expression of their souls, not just a business. That energy imparted from them, plus the tranquil surroundings, make this place stand out. For a more holistic, low-key and budget friendly alternative to the stuffier Woodstock Inn, the Sleep Woodstock Motel is a hidden nook of respite--a modern, clean homage to the charming motel genre of yesteryear. As an aside, for those who like rising early, the curtains let in just enough light to slowly wake you with the sun. And for those who like sleeping in, bring eye-covers if you want to avoid the morning light, and you'll sleep soundly well past 9 (I did both during my stay). Also, the Woodstock Farmer's Market is only a few minutes drive away, with wonderful fresh prepared foods, and sandwiches. Each room at the Sleep Woodstock has a mini fridge so you can fill it with organic goodies. Give this charming place a try, you'll likely make a...
Read moreI know what you’re thinking - a motel. Stop right there because, initially, that’s what I thought. But I read the reviews and looked at the pictures and decided to give Sleep Woodstock a try - we were only coming to VT from NH for a night so what did we have to lose? And we are so glad glad that we did! This place was awesome and is certainly a something worthy of much more than a “motel” stereotype. Efficient, friendly and easy check in. We got the key and headed to our room, number 5, expecting a decent room - expecting one that was updated but obviously and old 60s motel. Boy were we wrong, we opened the door and were instantly impressed with the look and feel of our room. It was roomy. It was sharp and modern. It had an “art” wall that was very cool, very casual classy. Nice big king bed, a bistro set to eat at, and a chair to lounge in if we wanted. No old school TV either, we had a wall mounted flat screen which was easily visible from the bed. Speaking of which - the bed was a nice king, very comfortable and with enough pillows for comfort - and not too many to be a nuisance. And our bathroom was modern, bright, and with enough space to move without bumping into everything in there. Plenty of towels and toiletries. Lots of hot water, good water pressure. Did I mention we had a fridge, a microwave, and a Keurig coffee maker too? We loved this place! Close and convenient to Woodstock yet miles away from the usual prices of most Woodstock accommodations. Try Sleep Woodstock - you won’t be disappointed. I know we...
