Narbona Wine Lodge and Estates in Carmelo Uruguay provided an unforgettably delicious experience for our honeymoon. It was clear from the moment we entered that their welcoming culture provided hospitality fit for a king. It’s clear when the entire team takes ownership of the customer experience and each of our interactions with Narbona workers showed the staff’s pride in cultivating a luxurious visit for guests.
After a quick nap in our palatial yet rustic suite full of hardwoods, burnished metals, and delightful antiques, we were treated to a tour of their winemaking facilities and a tasting of their most popular vintages. My understanding of the details was limited, as the entire tour was conducted in Spanish, but the tastes of their Tanat Roble, homemade cheeses, and house baked breads are universal and translation is unnecessary. My favorite was the honey-infused grappa which they conveniently make available for guests in the office free of charge. Every small convenience was provided and thought of ahead of time — from small jars of dulce de leche, a local specialty, placed by our bedside in the evenings to local woolen ponchos being placed in our closet for use during the cool Uruguayan evenings.
We stayed for three short days. There are only five rooms available on the estate, and we were fortunate to have booked their best room overlooking the vineyard. We enjoyed a sunset cruise with wine and antipasti, a picnic in the vineyard, an evening fire by the fountain, and lots of quiet moments with my beautiful new wife during our brief stay.
On our final day, we learned my initial impressions of their hospitality were spot on. The King and Queen of Norway had stayed on another residence on the property just a few weeks prior. I was fortunate to be treated to a private tour of the chateaux grounds by Frederick, a longtime employee and friend of the proprietor. The 400 year old chateau on the banks of the Rio Plata was built by slaves for the Portuguese and Spanish merchants ferrying silver from the mines to the ocean. It was a lovely and unforgettable experience. I look forward...
Read moreWe stayed at Narbona Wine Lodge in Carmelo for 3 nights, and it was a beautiful and memorable experience.||||We were in the Tannat room, which was spacious and beautifully laid out. It had a cozy front sitting area with a couch, TV, and desk, plus a generous outdoor patio that made the whole space feel like our own little retreat. The bed was super comfortable, the hair dryer was excellent (a rare win in hotel rooms!), and while the bathroom had good counter space, better lighting at night would really elevate the experience.||||The setting is absolutely stunning—they’ve done such a beautiful job with the ambience and overall atmosphere. It’s peaceful, historic, and incredibly well put together. You feel like you’ve stepped into a different rhythm of life, in the best possible way.||||One of the highlights was the wine tasting, which was included with our room. We didn’t know it needed to be pre-booked, but the staff were incredibly accommodating in finding a time that worked for us.||||We also booked the five-course tasting dinner, which was delicious. The accompanying tour was in Spanish only, but there was a lovely couple nearby who helped translate, and we managed just fine. The whole evening felt relaxed and special.||||Service throughout was exceptional. Special shout out to Maurizio at the front desk and the wonderful woman from Portugal in the restaurant—both went above and beyond to make our stay feel thoughtful and personal. You really do feel like you’re the only guests there.||||Breakfast was a standout—served on the outdoor porch (not buffet-style), with homemade everything: dulce de leche, jams, yogurt, granola, and eggs made to order. Such a perfect start to the day.||||We highly recommend Narbona. The setting is stunning, the wine is excellent, and the whole experience feels both refined and deeply relaxing. A truly...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I stayed here on 2018.12.13 for one night. We found the staff to be incredibly helpful and enjoyable to speak with. This was an excellent stay.
Property: Enjoying the complimentary use of wool ponchos to keep warm, as well as a fire in the room's fireplace. Beautiful gardens, pools, and stone / brick buildings. Free bicycles and a 4x4 ATV for touring the vineyard. Small corrections needed in the grading of the driveway and weatherproofing of the room door. Small amount of mold in the well-appointed bathroom, easily fixed if they add exhaust fans after removing the existing mold.
Food: The restaurant was excellent. The atmosphere was rustic and well decorated. The ingredients were almost entirely produced on property or within 100 miles. Dessert was excellent, I just love their Dulce de Leche.
Wine: The wine tour and tasting was exceptional. The sommelier was fluent in english and spanish and provided a great overview of the production process and specific wine features / accompaniments. We never felt rushed or out of place. Everything was perfect.
Extras: Narbonne booked to horseback riding tour for us and we enjoyed...
