I am delighted to present the first review on this lovely hotel. It is a clean hotel undergoing an upgrade, located on a main street not far from the beach. The staff don't speak English but are very friendly and accommodating and tried their best to understand my limited Spanish. We had to dodge the painter going up and down the stairs and there was a lot of building noise the first afternoon but our room was light, clean and very comfortable and, once completed, this would be a highly recommended place to stay.||||Our room had a small fridge without the dreaded minibar, large clean bathroom, WiFi, room safe, air-con, TV, lots of natural light & outside shutters to make it dark & quiet at night - and a very comfortable bed. We decided to stay an extra night because of the excellent fish dinner we enjoyed in their restaurant - we had the same 'catch of the day' the following night which was again, superbly prepared and presented. The best meal in the whole of Uruguay.||||As we stayed 2 nights, we were a little surprised that our room wasn't made up on the 2nd day - perhaps this is normal in Uruguay, we didn't stay 2 nights anywhere else so we don't know. I didn't know how to ask about this in Spanish. Apart from having to make your own bed, this hotel was excellent.||||The included breakfast was very good and, although we overslept the first morning, this was no problem, the staff just got on with serving our food with a smile. For US$60, this was...

With no reservations, I've managed to stay five nights in a few different rooms -- all were clean and quiet (shutters on the windows, fridge, TV and cooling fan, no air conditioning in the rooms I stayed but I didn't need it anyway); the breakfast of fresh fruit, bread, croissants (sweet and regular), jam, coffee and juice was great; and the staff were very helpful. I'm planning to stay for two months and the staff made an extra effort to assist me in finding accommodation for a longer period....

La Viola is reasonable ($70.00 Canadian) per night, has a good continental breakfast included (they even made us mate so we could try it and walk around with a thermos of hot water, leather insulated cup and a metal straw!), and the rooms are clean and quiet. Heard a professional percussion group on the street: Uraaaka -- complete with percussion pipes with perfect pitch. You should...
