Stayed here for a night in November 2013 whilst travelling around Uruguay for 2 weeks.||||This accommodation appears to be in a quiet location but the road outside is quite busy with trucks and noisy bikes.||||Our room was up a set of extremely steep steps so we were glad we did not bring our heavy suitcases inside the building. This access is not suitable for those who are mobility impaired.||||The double bedroom is of a good size. There was an air con. No fridge or television. There was some storage for clothes.||||Bathroom was a decent size with toilet, bidet and a shower that worked well.||||There is a dining room and I was advised that evening meals were served from 9 pm - 11.30 pm. This was a bit late for us so we walked down the street to the Granja Suisse Hotel (that we had stayed at on a previous visit to Uruguay) for dinner in their restaurant (open 8pm).||||Breakfast was included in the price of 1700 pesos and was nothing out of the ordinary. Simple continental.||||The outside grounds of Posad Ofelia were undtidy and it seemed like a lot more could have been done to spruce up the place. The yard and pool were not very inviting. There was some oniste parking at least.||||Two things that were not very impressive:||The white coverlet on the bed appeared to have a fresh blood stain on it and other stains (e.g. a large grass stain).||The shutters and windows (no screens) were all open on arrival and as a consequence there were mosquitos in the room.||||I would not...
Read moreArriving in Nueva Helvecia after a 120km bike ride from Montevideo at dark, we were a bit nervous about finding a place to stay. A local suggested La posada de Ofelia and I am so glad he did! Javier and Martin, the brothers who run the hotel, were friendly and welcoming. But our favorite part by far was the amazing dinner at the in-house restaurant. Maria is a culinary goddess! No menu, it's up to whats available from the days local purchases, but I can assure you, every dish she whips up is delightful. And we were shocked at how reasonable the bill turned out. Hands down, our favorite meal from the two week trip through Uruguay. ||||The surroundings are gorgeous and though we didn't swim, the new pool is beautiful. The rooms are simple, spacious, and clean. The entire community has a very romantic feel and it would be easy to fall in love with Colonia Suiza. We had a hard time pulling ourselves away after...
