Gran Hotel Uruguay — Hotel in Salto

It a clean basic hotel with 3 stars being quite adequate for the ammenities provided. The rooms have been recently refurbished, very clean and staff were always happy to help. The front desk is manned 24/7 and there is an in-room safe, ensuite, TV (with cable) and aircon/heating. Breakfast included daily which was very basic consisting of fresh squeezed juice (delicious), coffee and an assortment of pasteries. The front foyer has free internet contected computers and there is wireless available within range of the foyer also. Rooms were cleaned daily and if you ask the maids they are more than happy to do your laundry (which they do in their own time on the premises) having it back to you within 24 hours all ironed neatly. We never paid more than US$10-15 for a huge bag washed, dried and ironed. The hotel was less than 100m from the main street yet central to all the shops, restaurants & attractions of the area which could easily be done on foot. If you want a driver for the day, ask the manager and he will arrange one for you to take you wherever you like to go for a very modest fee. Overall it has everything you need for a short or long stay and it is the average by Uruguayan hotel standards as we stayed in a total of 6 hotels over 8 weeks and they all seem to be 2-4 stars by western standards regardless of how they rank themselves. If you want a great, cheap cultural experience then Uruguay if the place to go. Looking to be pampered and 5 star hotels then...

Centrally located but generally poor hotel at relatively high price.||Stayed one night on our travel through Salto. If I wasn't sick and already had a massive bus journey behind me and another ahead, we would have not stayed…||Small room. I spent three nights at this hotel in May of this year-2023.The location was perfect-in the centre of town and close to attractions and restaurants.The room I was given was large,clean and serviced daily...I want to pay tribute to the staff who were friendly and helpful-Shanina,Flavellina and Lilliana....Breakfast was included in the price of the room and was plentiful and well presented...I am happy to recommend this place and gladly give it...
