I stayed at Tropicana for 2 weeks with a friend and my two children ( 2 year old and a 7 month old). ||SERVICE - The staff are absolutely amazing. They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable right from the get go. I made a mistake and booked the wrong room (the smaller one) and they managed to get another bed into our room. The staff took our luggage and children up the stairs for us. They also would bring dinner to our room if our children were sleeping or didn't want to come down. I had great conversations with some of the staff and really got to know them. When our bus broke down, the manager called one of their own drivers for us. They were all so happy and friendly! Not a single complaint with the service.||CLEANLINESS - Our room was very tidy and was serviced every day. The hardwood floor and balcony was swept, towels replaced, rubbish taken out, dishes done and beds made every single day. The house keeper offered to do our laundry and we received it back the next day as well. We had no issues with mosquitos, there were a few lizards on the roof outside but that was a non-issue. The grounds were clean, everyday we saw men working to keep the place tidy and presentable.||SPACE - We had a beach front apartment (Room 11) which was located upstairs. The room had enough room for us to walk around while the toddler was playing. It also had a baby cot, double bed and single bed as well so I feel the room was very spacious. There was a large wardrobe with coat hangers and shelving we we could fit all of our suitcases and bags. There was a small table with 2 chairs and a couch that seated 3 people. The balcony was large with another table and 2 chairs. There was an air conditioning unit that was quite powerful and cooled our room right down in minutes as well as a ceiling fan. There was a flat screen tv. In the kitchen we had a microwave, toaster, kettle, gas stove with 2 elements, small fridge and plenty of cupboard and bench space.||SECURITY - We felt very safe at Tropicana. There is a safe in the wardrobe where we kept our passports. They also have a security guard stay onsite overnight.||BEDDING - Very comfortable, my children slept all night which never usually happens. Me and my friend had comfortable sleeps every night. ||NOISE - Some nights we could hear dogs barking from across the lagoon but it was faint enough to not disturb us. No traffic noise as Tropicana is situated down a long driveway away from the road.||LOCATION - About a 10 minute drive from Port Vila township, 15 minutes from the airport. Just down the road from the supermarket and ATM. ||PRICE - Definitely worth the price. Affordable.||FOOD - The chefs make amazing meals. Best beef burger I have ever had. So full of flavour and very big servings. ||GENERAL - Tropicana has a small pool which starts shallow and then gets very deep at one end. There were 2 kayaks and a stand-up paddle board for guests to use. There is a man-made beach which was a nice place to relax. There is a comfy seating area by reception where we would sit when waiting for our bus. There was wifi at Tropicana however it didn't reach our room. This wasn't a problem for us as we didn't need wifi but if guests did need it then they would need to sit in the pool/restaurant/reception area. There is no playground for children but my son had a great time playing on the man-made beach.||Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back. I...

Read moreVery mixed feelings about our stay at Tropicana Lagoon 'Resort'.||When my husband and I arrived we were disappointed with the initial impression of the room. |It was very dated, compared to the glossy photos, which we understand are many years old. |There were little faults: uncomfortable & creaky bed. Dusty floors, mould & cracks in the shower tiles. A hole in the bathroom wall, revealing the wire to the light switch. Pollen or dust was blown down onto our clothes & floor in the spare bedroom from the ceiling fan. Wardrobes difficult or impossible to open. Taps in the shower needed to be turned off extremely tightly to stop the water running. |But we were there to unwind so we decided to make light of it all and not move rooms, as we were situated with a nice outlook to the pool & lagoon, so we didn't mention anything to the staff. ||We had a very nice meal on the first night. the second, was very ordinary. Again, we just laughed, and thought ‘oh well, we are not hungry now’ ||The lagoon & pool were very pleasant. |In the first three days, the bedding was pulled up, the dishes washed the towels replaced, only after we asked for fresh ones, as ours were still damp. That was the extend of the room upkeep. |It was not swept, the bathroom was not cleaned, the dishes not put away. |There was only one key for the room – the management did not even have a spare key. Again, we thought 'they're very cruisy over here, what's the big deal’. ||We were very unlucky to experience two cyclones in three days on this trip. The 1st one on our second-last booked day at Tropicana. The power went out, there was no running water, all understandable. Staff had lost their homes, and there was devastation all around, so we didn't expect staff to come to work. However for the onsite manager to not be prepared with torches, or bottled water was very disappointing. After pleading with them to obtain something they did return with some candles. To not check on our wellbeing after the first cyclone was disappointing. To sit across from our room & drink kava and chat past 2am was very disappointing. ||All flights were grounded, we didn't know how long until we could leave Vanuatu, but we knew we did not want to remain at this property.|We relocated the next day, on the morning of the second cyclone. We found excellent accommodation in Port Vila, on the bay, for the equivalent of only $20 AUD more per night than Tropicana. The management of the new hotel had water and food for us, they checked on us and had the pool cleaned up the next morning. They also had no power, but cooked for their guests under torchlight. It was in stark contrast to Tropicana. ||There is no way it should be called a resort, nor should it be a 4 star accommodation. That rating may have been awarded at the time the photos were taken. In 2023 the property should immediately be downgraded to a 3 star at best, and the tariff should reflect the current state...
