Staying with Tuan is more than staying at lodge in Can Tho, it’s about getting to experience it through a local. I booked my trip very last minute and took a Futa bus from Saigon in the morning for a 24 hour stay. I chose to do this instead of booking a day long trip with a tour company from Saigon because I didn’t want to feel rushed with the itinerary and also miss the early morning experience of Can Tho. I am so glad that I made the decision to stay with Tuan, he took care of everything and planned everything out for me with my choice of activities. I got lost after arriving and he came picked me up right away! I recommend following his suggestion of getting a private car or calling him once you get in a cab for directions. Don’t take a shuttle like I did. The day I arrived was pretty chill. I was given snacks and a beverage to help me refresh. Later that afternoon I took a boat ride with his staff through the neighborhood to catch the sunset, unfortunately it started pouring on the way back. Tuan was so sweet he apologized for me missing the sunset, but of course I understand that’s just how nature works. The dinner at the lodge was amazing! There was so much food I didn’t even get to try everything, if I liked something I just kept eating more of that. Because I wasn’t there that morning he had picked out the ingredients and dishes. But if you are able to go to the morning market with him you can pick out what you want for dinner, such a unique experience!
The following early early morning he took us to the floating market which was so cool to see, especially because it’s for the locals not the tourists. There were actual sales happening between locals, and even though it was a busy market it was so peaceful. Overall staying with Tuan was a very peaceful experience, I only wish I had stayed longer. After the the floating market we went to the land market where he had the couple that was staying with him that night pick out what they wanted to have for dinner. After a quick rest at our rooms we went for a bike ride to the coco farm and got a tour from Tuan along with samples of the coco they make there. That morning was one of the most productive early mornings I’ve ever had.
I highly recommend staying with Tuan and taking advantage of the activities he offers. He’s a great guide! I can only imagine how much more fun I would have had if I had...
Read moreThis has been one of my most pleasant travel experiences ever. Tuan, his family and employees are warm, fun and welcoming. The home stay is like a little oasis, with a well maintained pool and absolutely delicious food. It was great eating dinner communally and trying so many amazing local dishes and ingredients.
A highlight of my entire trip in Vietnam was going to the land market with Tuan (after visiting the floating markets) and picking out food for dinner. I highly recommend doing this, as well as borrowing the bikes and exploring the streets and rivers of this pocket of the delta. The locals are absolutely lovely, as is the nature around.
If you like to be kept very busy, then two nights is perfect - you can do both tours, and take yourself around on the bikes. If you are happy with a little time to relax like I am, then more nights is good! I stayed two but I wish I had stayed three or four to decompress. There‘s a hammock and reclining chairs in the garden, the pool, and you can do relaxed little bike rides.
I highly highly recommend!
And a huge thank you to Tuan and his family, I will forever be grateful to you for letting me...
Read moreMr. Tuan’s homestay was a highlight of our three weeks in Vietnam. He is a super host, was easy to communicate with, and shared his own perspective on life in Vietnam. Our room was a little dark and rustic, but spotless, and who cares, because you are really here for the market tour, the excellent meals (and yummy free coffee) and the sparkling saltwater pool. Also there were free bikes to use, which we really enjoyed on the quiet rural roads nearby.|We signed up for the pre-dawn boat tour of the Cai Rang floating market and it was super memorable. After the wholesale market, Mr. Tuan took us through the regular morning market (on land) and we got to choose ingredients for that evening’s dinner. He encouraged us to be bold in our choices: frog, rat, snake, etc! He and his kitchen staff then prepared everything for an amazing dinner. If you don’t go on the market tour, you get to eat what the other guests picked out, so be warned!! Honestly though, everything was delicious. We highly recommend this place. It’s an incredible value...
