I'm pretty reasonable when it comes to accommodation whilst travelling. I have stayed in a variety of good and bad places and all I need is a bed, air-con and a clean wash place. This hotel is quite new and I would compare it to a travel lodge which is fine. However we arrived late in the evening after a long days travelling and went straight to sleep in the huge comfy bed. We had requested a non smoking room but the room we were in stunk if smoke and had empty buts in the ashtray. Next morning we had an early train to catch so we grabbed breakfast which was nothing short of pathetic. Sticky rice, noodles, a white gloopy soup and a boiled egg was all that was there. |After that we went to have a quick shower before heading to the train station. Both towels were filthy. Not even stained after having been washed which I could deal with but actually filthy dirty and not even washed. Both towels. |The worst part was none of the staff spoke English apart from the scripted, here's your room number and breakfast is at this time garbage they gave us when checking in. So when we went downstairs to ask they didn't understand and spoke thriugh walkie talkies to other members to try decipher what we said. All in all apart from the dirt, the language barrier was an issue for asking questions outside their scripted speech, staff were not helpful and hotel feels like it's falling apart even though it's new. We felt that when we tried to explain to staff about the dirty towels and non smoking room that as they didn't understand us they just said sorry which didn't solve the problem. If you have to stay just stay...
Read moreI knew the hotel was right on Highway 1, the main north-south route in Vietnam, and that there would be a lot of noise from large trucks and buses, which there was. I had a room at the front of the hotel, but with earplugs I slept well enough. I was disappointed with the hotel as it appears not much attention is paid to upkeep. Both reading lamps by the bed didn’t work. They came and exchanged one but not the other. The shower door was coming apart and the room could have used a once over by an exterminator as there were some ants and other crawling insects. The breakfast room needed cleaning - some of the chairs and the rugs had big stains. I supposedly had a non-smoking room but there was an ashtray on the table. As well, outside of the room there was a table and chairs with an ashtray, presumably for smokers who had non-smoking rooms. My biggest complaint with the hotel is that they kept my passport which some Vietnamese hotels do, but less so now. I needed it to book a train ticket at the station, but they would not give it back to me unless I paid for one night’s stay. I guess they assumed that despite having my suitcase in the room I might just leave without paying. The staff spoke virtually no English, but I think the onus should be on me as a visitor to their country to be able to communicate basic needs in Vietnamese. The breakfast very limited. If I ever go to Dong Ha again, I would choose a...

I spent two nights here. The rooms were good and clean and very modern! Had a grand budapest hotel vibe.
But when i checked out thats when the problems started.
I handed my room card over to the receptionist when i was leaving and they told me to;
"Wait at the front desk whilst they check my room"
first time In south east asia that i have been told to wait after checking out.... Not to rouse them i waited.
The desk lady said i owe 40,000 for the two pot noodles in the room. Fair enough, i thought they were Complimentary, my mistake. I gave her the money for the noodles.
Then they said i owe 500,000 for the marks on the white bedsheet.... The cleaning lady actually came downstairs to the lobby with my bedsheet to show the lady at the reception!! It was a few marks from the pot noodle that will wash right out.
Felt like taking the sheet i bought for 500,000 with me! But I didn't want them kicking off, as i have seen it before in a few places in Vietnam. So you just pay the scam tax and move on.
But i know for sure that the sheet will be washed and re-used again.... you sneaky petes.
Hell! Even the hostel i'm staying at now has a few marks on their white bed sheets.. 😂
Take me back to...
