It’s hard to put into words just how incredible the 4-day motorbike tour of the Ha Giang Loop with Jasmine Tours was—it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
We booked the tour online in advance and took the 8 PM sleeper bus from the Jasmine Tours shop in Hanoi to Ha Giang, arriving at 3 AM. Upon arrival, we were provided with a shared sleeping area with beds, similar to a hostel, where we could rest until morning. The next day, we packed a small backpack for the trip, stored our main luggage at the Jasmine Ha Giang accommodation, and attended a well-organised morning briefing. We were then split into smaller groups of 10, although around 80 people started the tour that morning. While we saw the larger group at the homestays in the evenings, it was our smaller group that we truly bonded with—sharing meals, travelling together, and experiencing the journey side by side.
One of the biggest highlights of the trip was our group leader, Dung, who was also my easy rider. I felt incredibly lucky to have him as my guide. Not only was he an excellent rider, making me feel completely safe at all times, but he also brought so much energy and enthusiasm to the experience. He spoke excellent English (which not all easy riders do), shared fascinating stories about the region and his hometown, and ensured that every stop along the way was just as memorable as the ride itself. His passion for what he does truly enhanced the trip.
Each day, we stopped at countless breathtaking viewpoints—Ha Giang is without a doubt one of the most spectacular places I have ever visited. Thanks to Dung’s organisation and expertise, I was able to fully immerse myself in the stunning landscapes, winding mountain roads, and vibrant local culture without any stress. In addition to the motorbike journey, the tour also included extra activities such as a cave visit, a boat trip, and a stop at a waterfall, all of which were fantastic experiences.
The accommodation throughout the tour was excellent—clean, comfortable, and set in beautiful surroundings. Our group of 10 stayed together every night in shared bunk-bed rooms, similar to hostel-style dormitories, and one of the homestays even had breathtaking mountain views.
Evenings were relaxed and enjoyable—you could have drinks if you wanted to (as many did), but it wasn’t a wild, party-heavy tour (at least ours wasn’t). We ate dinner, drank happy water with our easy riders and spent the evenings playing card games and unwinding, but on the second night, one of the accommodations had a disco-style room, which made for a fun change of pace.
If you’re thinking about doing the Ha Giang Loop, I highly recommend Jasmine Tours. With so many companies to choose from, it can be hard to decide, and you often hear mixed reviews about all of them—including Jasmine. Some people mention overcrowded sleeping arrangements, chaotic drinking tours, poor accommodation, or unsafe riding conditions. I experienced none of these issues with Jasmine. Everything was well-organised, safe, and an absolute pleasure from start to finish.
I would do it again in a heartbeat!
Extra Tip: If you take a VIP sleeper bus from Ha Giang to Hanoi/anywhere after the tour, you will arrive at 3 AM/early hours of the morning. I highly recommend pre-booking a cheap hostel or hotel for that night so you have somewhere to go and sleep...
Read moreDid the Ha Giang loop and it was one of the best experience of my life. I chose the self riding option.
I would’ve rated the tour 4 star but I need to take off 2 for the lack of safety sense and the lack of staff addressing to concerns. I barely write long reviews but felt like people need to know what they are getting into when booking through this tour
The good:
Ambience 5/5: the people on the tour are great - everyone is open minded and ready to party which elevated the experience by a lot!
The experience 5+/5: one of the craziest tour I have done- something I’ll remember for the rest of my life
Itinerary 4/5: overall, you get to see a lot, including neighborhoods, caves, river, and mountains
The bad:
Transparency 1/5: there was a landslide the day before the tour started. They emailed late, informing us that the bus is leaving earlier for a detour, playing down the situation. It turned out the major road to Ha Giang were blocked and there were many casualties. We had to trek through 25 minutes of mud and water up to ankle heights - none of this was communicated except the change of bus departure time. The tour should’ve been delayed/canceled until roads are cleared. It felt insensitive to walk through the local community knowing that there are search and rescue still going on after the land slide..
Please watch for weather condition when you book.. they’ll tell you it’s fine because they know you are stuck once you get on the bus
Safety 0/5: the roads are strenuous and tough even for experienced motorbikers. We have a couple of less experienced self riders on the trip and the staff did not make them feel comfortable, continuing to drive very fast and passing buses and trucks in turns. They DO NOT take safety seriously and joke about how they’ve seen crashes in the past tours. Very discomforting for novice riders. The staff ignores any safety concerns regarding the bike: I had some problems on day 2/3 ignoring the bike in the morning and they brushed it off making me feel really uncomfortable riding it in an already strenuous road condition. When addressed that the tour is going a bit too fast for self riders, they brushed it off and joked how it was normal speed (they are going 50-60km on small roads and turns..). There was also a time where a self rider was left in the very end without any staff behind.
Food 2/5: it was pretty good on the first day until you realize lunch and dinner is EXACTLY the same
Accommodation 2/5: the “homestay” provided is a just a fancier way of saying putting 18 people in 18 small mattresses in one room. Most places we stayed at did not provide lockers for valuables.
In conclusion: I don’t know if I would recommend Jasmine tour to another friend (especially if you are to do the self drive option). It seemed like the tour is not good at accommodating to needs of the group or dealing with unexpected events.
I would definitely recommend the loop for anyone visiting north Vietnam. The...
