Kim Dung Hotel — Hotel in Hạ Long City

Travelled in the overnight phuc xuyen bus from Sapa. Arrived at 6am to the hotel. Even though I had emailed prior to arrival giving the time of arrival there was nobody there and everyone was asleep. We woke up a young lad upstairs. He asked our name and just gave us a key in return for our passports. Room 602, I don't know if all rooms are alike we only saw one. Lift up to room is ample big enough for three adults and three cases. When we got into the room the view of stagnant lake with rubbish and dead fish which is looking over the dockyard. Mattress was rock hard and I mean really reaaaaallly solid. It was so bad it turned into a joke which we took a video of to show everyone back home when we return from our travels. We had a family room and after 2 hours decided we would never be able to sleep on them. They still made us pay for the day which we agreed, it was better than the 2 nights he tried to charge for but called manager they agreed only one. This is not somewhere one should go to sleep. It would be a great shower/wash room or a storage room for the day. We tested the bed and then the floor and there was no difference between solid wood floor and what they called a mattress....

We were greeted with a warm welcome from what we believed was the manager. Our room was ready early which is always a bonus. |The room was a good size with a nice view of the lake. The mattress was a nice size but very uncomfortable and the sheet was constantly falling off. The tv in the room had a few English channels. |The location of this hotel is very poor, no nearby shops, restaurants, attractions in walking distance. The manager however was amazing. He booked us a boat trip, showed us where to go for food and we used the onsite taxi which was very cheap. |Overall this is an average hotel to stay at, many locals in the area were extremely rude to us as they were staring and laughing as we were the only tourists around. We didn't enjoy our stay in halong bay but the manager was a great help in making our time...

A young man taking care of the hotel along with his parents speaks excellent English and is extremely helpful. We had to cancel one night at the last minute and find quick transport to Hajfung on their Chinese New Year Eve. He arranged everything and agreed not to take extra charge for the last minute cancelled night. Very friendly and trust-worth! Hotel itself is clean and comfortable. It is possible to get to marine by taxi at a reasonable price (arrange taxi via hotel staff, you will get better price...
