The location is pretty awful – opposite the docks and on a main road lined with abandoned buildings. The so called beach is about 25m long and is rubbish strewn. Neither of the 2 receptionists spoke a word of English, we had to communicate through google translate. We received no information about the hotel – wifi code, breakfast timings etc. The room was clean, although two thirds of the drawers were welded shut and had no handles, so they were for decoration only. The shower had no curtain or screen, so the bathroom floor got soaked and the toilet leaked. There was no iron or safe, no printed information about the hotel facilities (presumably because there weren’t any!) and the nightclub at the back of the hotel resulted in a lot of noise and strobe lights coming through the curtains. The spa was closed, the restaurant didn’t do dinner and there are no restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Halong City itself is a bit of a dive, the only thing there was a cable car and a theme park – both closed for 6 weeks.
