We stayed here for one night because we wanted to catch the 7am hydrofoil to Cat Ba. Fir this the location is good, its only a 10min walk to the port and about the sane distance to the bars/restaurant in town.||||The hotel itself was less ideal. Our room was tiny, luckily we weren't staying long so we didn't need to unpack, if we did it would be too small for 2 people. The bed was rock hard and pillows thin. As a result, we barely slept (at least there was no chance of missing the boat as we were up anyway!!). There was air con and a working tv, so we kept ourselves entertained through the night. The decor is dated (although I wouldn't expect more for the price) but it made it look grubby, even though it wasn't, and the door looked like someone had tried to break in, so it made you feel less than secure.||||The bathroom was a pleasant surprise having seen the state of the room..it was clean and more modern.||||We can't comment on breakfast, as sadly it didn't start until 6:30, so we missed it.||||On a side note, if you do end up in Haiphong for a night on the way to Cat Ba make the effort to head into town in the evening. It's nothing spectacular but the people are welcoming, there is some good food and it's nice to be in a less 'touristy' town. Plus it gets you out of...
Read moreWe booked this hotel as it's close to the cats ferries. It started off with the taxi charging an extra 20k airport fee on top of the meter. Not sure if it's a scam or not. Asked the hotel and they didn t really understand my question. Hotel looks good. Bit of marble. Room is basic but ok. Only the beds are nearly as hard as wood. I asked for another room but all the rooms are the same and according to reception vietnamese like hard mattresses! ||We asked for takeaway breakfast but they didn t understand or could provide this. Just go to breakfast 6.30 and take ur breakfast. But at 6.30 there was only juice and if you have to get on the 7am hydro you Don t have time to wait for you egg to be cooked.... ||We also booked out hydro tickets but in the morning they were not there. ||Oh and please note that lonely planet must receive a decent payment from this hotel coz their review about this hotel was 'modern spotless hotel with English speaking staff'. Not the first time that we found out that lonely planet reviews are very different from TA reviews. Anyway ok hotel to stay if you have to but be careful...
Read morePro: unfortunately only one - the location in very center.||Contra: ||I. Staff is barely speaking any English. A question more complicated than "where is next restaurant" may not be answered.||II. Poor information in the same time. For example, the huge safe in a room has no user manual. For verbal help see chapter (I).||III. Worst hygienic condition seen in my life for money paid. Examples-: Bath is incorrectly installed and floods bathroom at every use. Therefore, all wooden parts in bathroom are rotten. Plywood panel next to bed was rotten from inside and smells terribly after first touch.||||Maybe you will be more happy, and find this property deserving two or even three stars. For me, however, fresh funghi and moss is complete disaster.||No tips this time, as I suggest the reader will not...
