Flower Hmong Homestay — Hotel in Lào Cai Province

Stayed at Flower Hmong homestay for two nights in order to visit the local markets in Can Cau and Bac Ha.||||The homestay is located a 1-2km outside of Bac Ha but within walking distance of both the centre and surrounding Flower Hmong villages. The owner was there to pick me up from the bus upon arrival (think the bus called ahead for me) and also arranged a night bus to Hanoi, again dropping me off at the bus station free of charge.||||They were also able to provide scooter rental in order to visit Can Cau and surrounding areas. ||||The homestay is amazing value for money, with comfortable beds, modern bathroom facilities and has amazing views of the mountains from the balcony. ||||Hands down the highlight of staying here though is the extremely welcoming couple who own it. Their English can be limited but we were able to hold a conversation (sometimes with the aid of google translate) and both evenings we sat down together for a plentiful and tasty meal. Very good value for money. Possibly the most comfortable bed I've slept in in Vietnam, complete with good quality mosquito net. Delicious food. Above all, a very accommodating family. They insisted on bringing me takeaway pho from Bac Ha after the local places had closed. The best part was when I asked them to drop me at a village to do a trek I had read about we ended taking a detour and hiking through shrub to the top of a mountain for breathtaking views of the area, bumping into local Flower Hmong people and their water buffalo...

Me and a friend stayed there last August. We had a great time and got everything we wanted out of the visit - motorbike rental, advice on where to go, etc. Facilities were clean and up to a western standard. They helped us get a bus back to Lao Cai.||||I of course found it extremely exciting to stay over at a local person's place instead of a western-style hostel.
