We arrived for check-in around 9pm, so we just wanted to grab our room, take a shower, and go to sleep. Apparently, someone else's shower was more important, and we had to wait almost 30 minutes for the reception girl to finish her shower. How do we know? There was only the night guard left, an old man, who was useless besides relaying that information.
After grabbing the key, we thought the worst was over, but the nightmare had just begun. Two main things:
The comforter had several red stains and blotches all over, and on both sides, so I couldn't even try to use one side.
The Air Conditioner swing panel was missing, so it was blowing directly on me all night.
I tried to sleep without the comforter, but couldn't because of the broken AC machine.
I was too tired to find another hotel, so we made due, and promptly left at 7am.
Keep in mind that this isn't a real hotel in the sense of the Western world, so there is no such thing as customer service. Think of it as one of those motels you see in horror movies where the lone staff doesn't give a shyte about you. For a little more, stay at the Cuu Long Hotel nearby. Much much better.
The only positives are the beds are not rock hard like most cheap hotels, just regular hard; they give you 4 bottles of water; and the location is great, next to many banks, and VinCom Center where you can do your eating and shopping. A Highlands Cafe is two stores down...

Some areas are freshly decorated, others are in a poor state. I've a feeling it is regularly used for local tourists on bus trips, two coaches pulled up when I was there. The beds are like concrete with one very thin blanket. Though the breakfast was described as being 'included' there was no evidence of it when we arrived in reception in the morning, apart from a few bangs and shouts from a dirty looking kitchen. I prefered to go hungry. Oh dear! I would like to say something else positive, um, the pillows were nice and the wifi connection was good. Other than that, I would never ever stay there again. In some ways, my experience of the hotel mirrored that of the town, pretty grim overall. Glad to get back to HCM for a decent lunch and a cold beer. If you swallow the hype and have to go to My Tho (good luck!), why not be kind to yourself and choose...
Read moreWe arrived in My Tho three months after our confirmed booking at Minh Kieu hotel. Showing our booking confirmation the staff told us that we were at the wrong hotel. I showed the confirmation one more time and the photos of the hotel shown online...trying to convince the staff that we were at the right hotel. They persisted and told us to take a cab to the hotel they said was the right hotel. As we came to the new hotel far from the city it was obvious...they had sent us to another hotel...not the one we had booked. Ten minutes talking to the guy at the desk of the new hotel...I got him to phone the hotel that we actually had booked - Minh Kieu Hotel. The Minh Kieu Hotel now told us that we had a reservation made!!! Taxi back to the Minh Kieu...they showed us a room stinking of cigarette smoke...we went down to the lobby and told them what we thought of their behavior towards guests and left...bad,...
