The Homestay is located near the Bai Định Temple (20min walk to the ticket complex). We were able to walk here in the late afternoon and see the Temple at night time.||We booked to stay here for 4 days/3 nights in mid-March 2025. It wasn’t really good timing for our hosts when we arrived. They had other family come and look after the property. It was difficult to communicate and we felt like an inconvenience.||The positives of staying here:|- It is near the Temple but you really need to hire a scooter to get around to everywhere else as it is isolated. |-The place is safe and tidy. |-The hosts are knowledgeable (we just struck them at the wrong time as they had other matters going on). |-It’s reasonably priced.|-It’s quiet and has air conditioning. |-The host was able to help with transport to the city to get our bus and also manages another hostel so helped us to store our luggage there and to have the hostel staff do our laundry which costs 30K a kg. We really appreciated this.||I don’t want to give a a bad review but there were some key things that really affected our time in Ninh Bình. We understand that our hosts had some personal matters come up but tried to not be an inconvenience on the family that came to help out when we stayed:||- The towels in our room were never changed and we had half a roll of toilet paper when we arrived and had to ask for another during our stay. |-There were laundry facilities which I found out about on the last day of our stay but they were unable to offer these to us during our stay.|-We weren’t quite sure on whether or not the rooms are cleaned before we arrive or during our stay. |-I rented a scooter for two days and paid 300,000VD. I left the scooter in the front by the gate and locked it. In the morning I came out and it was gone. I assumed the person that I rented it from came and collected it so I decided to walk and bike around Ninh Bình (and we were unable to travel out to see other sights on our third day). That evening around 10.30pm we came back and the owner told me that the scooter was parked across the road at his mother’s home. His mother saw me that morning but didn’t mention that she had taken the scooter to store it inside her home. As a result, I returned it to the owner the next morning and apologised for it being late. I was worried that he would charge me for it but he was understanding.|-The water from the shower is low pressure and the water goes onto the floor near the toilet (it looked like half of the shower door was missing). |-The last night of our stay the power went out during the night and wasn’t switched on until about 7.30-8am. The rooms are really dark because of the way they are built so we had to use flash lights to get around the bathroom/shower. Our mobile phones weren’t charged overnight so we had to delay our check out to sort that out. |- The breakfast was basic and I wasn’t really keen on eating it but felt obliged to. ||I believe that other people will have a better stay here. We just came...
Read moreWhen you're visiting Ninh Bin, there's some things that you just have to do, like doing the boat ride in Trang An valley, exploring the Bai Dinh complex, and the not so marketed attraction - meeting Anna at her cute homestay. I could write a review about Anna or her beautiful "Palm homestay" and it'll be the same thing. They both offer the warmth, kindness, and a natural calm exuberance that makes it very hard to get out and do any of your Ninh Binh travelling. You reach the homestay, and you're greeted by the always smiling Anna alongside her lovable dog, a very vocal cat, and Anna's precocious little daughter who's named 'Pet', as she funnily fits in with the rest of the ensemble. The cottage you stay in is equipped with all the necessities and more, and Anna is always available to plan your trip, or help you with anything. You also get in house authentic Vietnamese food made by Anna's mother in law that you can enjoy either in your room or in the dining area alongside Anna's family. The cottage is also at a good distance to all major Ninh Binh travel destination and if you're coming from Hanoi, your taxi/limousine could easily drop or pick you up from there with a small extra charge. You book Palm homestay for its aesthetic, but really you takeaway from it the best that Vietnam has to offer - it's amazing people.
