Hidden champion of worldwide kite spots
Phan Rang Kite Center is a fantastic place that combines everything that is necessary to get addicted to kiting as a sport and Vietnam as a country.
Where should I begin? Okay let’s start with the kite conditions: Highly stable wind throughout a long season of four months, a lagoon spot with flat water and some nice waves behind the reef. The water is nicely warm (although a thin shorty is recommended for longer sessions). Due to the tide the lagoon could be completely without water for a couple of hours. Either you are a little bit patient and wait for the water or you could walk out and kite behind the reef. The walk is about 600 meters. You could time your sessions that you walk out while the water is rising, kite outside and use the flat water on your way back to the beach.
The area Phan Rang: Although Vietnam is a very touristic country you feel a little bit beside the worned-out track when you spend some time in this part of the country. There are not many tourists besides the Kitercommunity. As soon as you leave the direct surrounding of the lagoon (where some restaurants are prepared for western tourists) you won’t find any touristic infrastructure at all. You have great opportunities to eat every day in real Vietnamese restaurants for a really small amount of money while you get an authentic glimpse on daily Vietnamese life. If you spend a longer time here and really miss some western food, you could get some either in the Kitecenters along the lagoon or in the city center of Phan Rang. There are no classic sightseeing hotspots in this area. If you are tired from kiting or waiting for the water rising you could do some worthwhile trips with the scooter to some nice waterfalls or/and along the coast.
Phang Rang Kite Center (Staff and People): Besides the unbeatable kite conditions and the authentic surrounding the staff and the people at Phan Rang Kite Center make your stay outstanding. The manager Jeff is very welcoming and helps you with any question you have. He is able to give every single guest the feeling that he treats them with extraordinary attention. The service at the center is very good. You get assistance for launching and landing all the time and even in busy situations the Beach Boys have everything under control and you feel safe. The storage possibilities are good and of course you have fresh water to clean your gear, showers and toilets. The restaurant has fresh and good food, the prices are reasonable and the Service is fast and friendly. The guests are from the worldwide Kitercommunitiy. Besides people from China and Korea (for them the journey to reach this fantastic spot is short) you have people from all over the world. The guests are open and you get in contact with other people quite fast. The Vibes at this place just...
Read moreBeing a person who manages & owns a kiteboarding school in another part of Asia, I can appreciate the high level of service provided to me at the Phan Rang Kite Center.
Even prior to my arrival I had first-class correspondence with Jeff the manager of the place VIA whatsapp who is super helpful and friendly. He even arranged pick-up service for me from Cam Ranh int. airport!
Upon arrival I was in love with the place, beautiful and spacious rooms with an extremely comfortable king size bed... Bathroom is very clean and has an amazing rain shower - something every kiteboarder can appreciate after hours of fun on the lagoon.
The beach is a mere 50 metres from my room and provides a stunning view of sea, sand, sun and kites! Closer to the beach is the kite centre & restaurant.
The restaurant provides delicious food at very fair prices - perfect for replenishing throughout the day! The kite center itself is very well organised with different sections laid out for equipment storage/showers and dry-off area. Beach boys are also on hand to assist with set up and launching/landing , with designated parking and launch/land areas. (the Compressor makes life easy too!)
The kiteboarding spot is really amazing, flat water with waves and strong wind - a true kiteboarder couldn't really ask for anything more! The only issue about the spot is obviously the tide which can be extremely shallow - hence for kiters who aren't very experienced in such conditions they must be careful to prevent injuries.
Big thanks to Son (the owner), Jeff (the manager) and the entire team at Phan Rang kite center for making my holiday here one...
Read moreGreat kite center with super friendly and helpful staff, nice chillout atmosphere and great kitesurfing instructors. With guidance from my instructor Ewa, I’m about to become an independent kitesurfer very soon! She’s an extremely skilled and experienced kitesurfing instructor who prioritises safety and tailors lessons to your skills and weather conditions to maximise learning opportunities and enhance your progression. During sessions you have a radio fixed to your helmet and Ewa gives you detailed and clear instructions on what to improve / change as you ride so you can correct it straight away and get better quicker. I can see progress at every lesson, even though some sessions were challenging, there were always several valuable learning points to take away and remember. I had several kite lessons in various locations before and can say that Ewa is the best instructor I’ve ever had, she can explain a skill in detail and split it into little steps so it’s easy to understand. I’ve met other instructors at the centre and they too are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, they can advise you about current wind conditions etc. and are approachable and happy to chat or give you local tips. The bar / kitchen has a good selection of food and drinks at reasonable prices too which is a plus. What I also appreciated is that there are hot showers available on site, which can be especially useful after a session in colder weather. There is a storage available too so you can store your equipment there. Overall, very happy...
