I booked this through booking.com and was dismayed when I saw where it was - miles away from anything, down a back lane in a suburban village. Not sure who verifies booking.com but certainly there was a big failure here (not the first time in my experience). The restaurant only served breakfast and when I asked where I could get some food they pointed in the direction of the road (to be fair, they did offer to cook me something but I didn't want to trouble them). The road led to a huge market, crazy as these places are, no cooked food at all. Finally, after an hour of cycling I found a roadside place - seems these things don't start until the eve. The wifi, they told me, was only from 1-9pm and the rooms were just brick rooms, all in a row. What really angers me is that the room was advertised as the last one yet, out of the 9 available, only 2 were occupied (there was a Russian family in the other and they told me they were so unhappy but didn't know what to do as he'd paid through booking.com for 10 nights). The other thing that angers me is that they are charging $20 for this - a complete rip-off. They told me the beach was 2 km away but, because of all the road works and diversions, it was more like 5-6 km. I got out quickly next morning. BTW, one reviewer on booking.com enthused about Mike the monkey - this is a monkey, tied by it's neck to a tree so that he can only move 2 or 3 feet. It was never once let off the leash during my time there - not even gonna go into how I feel about this as anyone with a brain or heart will know. The only good thing I can say about this place is that it was clean and the family that run it do...
Read moreI honestly would not stay here again, despite the resorts friendly owners. ||||#1 They have a chained up monkey. I'm not sure about other prospect visitors but if I knew about this earlier I would not have booked here. The monkey was a baby and super friendly so it broke my heart every time I walked past. Not once did I see any of the owners playing with it. It is chained up to a tree so at least it is not it a cage but the chain is not long and when it really comes down to it! This is really not acceptable! ||||#2 Although the rooms are nice and authentic they are not sound proof at all. This was not a big issue for us but could be for some. ||||#3 The 'resort' is a little out of the way but if you are comfortable renting scooters then it's not a big issue. It's a 20 min drive from a lovely beach called Mango Bay. Within walking distance of the 'resort' we didn't find many places to eat. There is apparently a beach near by but we did not check it out. ||||Keep in mind we were only there one night. We extended our stay in Phu Quoc a day early and the accommodation we booked for the other nights was full so we stayed here. With some exploring this place could be better than we give it credit for. But it is defiantly not near the town centre of Phu Quoc. We stayed at A74 the other nights and it was great....
Read moreIt is a lovely small hotel hidden out of the main tourist area and even though I had a great time there, I believe it is not for everybody. It is ran by Vietnamese family whose daughter speaks somewhat English, but don't expect her to understand everything. I guess she understands more than she shows, but never mind. ||||The area is really calm and relaxing and their little garden is a lovely oasis of silence and shadow. Room was clean and taken care of everyday. Mosquitieras worked perfectly. Only unpleasant was the only cold shower. ||||Breakfasts are included and they are great, fresh and very enjoyable. We were renting bikes (150 000VND a day), first day we got discount 20 000VNDD/bike for have to be waiting 20 minutes for them and we also got 50% refund on having to get repaired a flat tire. Also they drove us on bikes to the airport for 80 000VND/person. That seems to me more than fair. ||||Stay calm, relaxed, smile and they will treat you very well. It is a good choice for a budget traveler, just notice that the flights are right now going to the international airport which is pretty far and for a taxi you would pay around 300 000VND. Try to contact them and make them pick you up on a bike if you don't have too much of lugagge, it should...
