Overall, we had a very good stay of 2 nights at Angsana Ho Tram (part of the Banyan Group). I can really recommend Angsana Ho Tram for a (relatively) quick getaway from Saigon.
This is a very new and beautiful resort. It shares most of the common areas with the sister-hotel Dhawa.
We especially enjoyed the green scenery as well as the spacious room. The whole resort feels like a huge garden which made us feel immediately relaxed. We got a complimentary upgrade to a one-bedroom pool suite due to my ALL Accor Status which was amazing. The private pool was bigger than we expected. We were also offered an early check-in as well as a late check out
I would like to especially note Mr. Long Bao Tran, the Front Office Manager, who was very friendly and welcoming during our stay.
The food at the resort is great and the prices for food and drinks are also decent compared to other resorts in Vietnam. A small feature that I really like: They offer some soft drinks as well as two beers for free in the mini-bar every day.
Moreover, I would like to highlight the fantastic staff at one of the two restaurants, Nook, were we had a great dinner (staff at the beachside restaurant "Azura“ were also mostly professional, but definitely less friendly).
All in all, the "hard product“ at Angsana is fantastic. However, the "soft product“ leaves a lot of room for improvement.
I would like to point out a few negative aspects that we experienced and I feel like they could improve:
-Pre-arrival communication is slow and confusing. The reception team takes longer than 24h to respond to e-mails which is strange when you ask questions related to your upcoming stay. -The resort does not have a proper bar, only a small "pool bar“. The staff there is, unfortunately, not very friendly, slow and indifferent to customer requests. The cocktails are mediocre at best (or I would even say that they are bad). In general, the bar offers only a sad experience -The pool bar did not offer any draft beer or fresh coconuts. Both should be available at a pool and were actually on the menu but they said they ran out of it "today“ (the next day they still did not have it). They also do not clean the tables after serving drinks, they just leave the empty glasses there forever, even in the evening I could see empty glasses and plates at the pool. -The hotel staff is not good at coping with a high occupancy rate. Especially during the weekend they are always "busy“ and stressed, obviously overwhelmed with the high number of guests. -The breakfast room was completely crowded on Sunday and staff did not manage to bring us the two things we asked for: napkins and coffee, even though we asked twice. The tables were not well cleaned and the noise level was higher than at a train station. The situation was much better on Monday, though. -Transfer: It is nice that the resort offers a free transfer from Saigon. However, the pick-up point was over-crowded. It was hard to recognize the correct bus and it turns out they had 3 (!) busses going at the same time. The bus was okay but not really comfortable, legroom is not great. The arrival at the resort was chaotic. All the seats were taken in the small reception area and we had to stand during check-in, at least for the first 5 mins. -Moreover, you should know that the resort seems to be constantly booked by big groups for corporate events and teambuilding during the afternoon and evening. Therefore, the noise at the beach is excessive. It seems like none of the other guests was really bothered by the noise but I was. The noise level seems completely unnecessary for the kind of events they do but this is very similar to Mui Ne, unfortunately. -The big groups are also prioritized in the restaurants leading to longer waiting times for regular guests -Room service (food) is slow and inefficient, they take 60 mins to prepare basic snacks in the afternoon. -The beach is nice but one of the less beautiful beaches I had the pleasure of enjoying in Vietnam. If you like beaches, I would recommend...
Read moreWe had a very pleasant Easter holiday at Angsana Ho Tram for 2 nights. We had stayed at Angsana Lang Co one year ago, and it was one of the best travel experiences I’ve ever had, so we expected a similar experience from their facility in Ho Tram.
We got a 1-bedroom pool suite, which was spacious, and the pool was clean and perfectly sized for two people to relax in. I liked the living room the most because it had a large and comfortable couch. From there, you could easily see the pool and garden outside. It was really relaxing and healing for me. The kitchen was equipped with all the necessary appliances, such as an induction stove, oven, fridge, and microwave. However, there weren’t any extra plates or cutlery, especially no wine glasses. I’m not sure if we could have requested those, but still, it felt like a big miss for me.
Both restrooms (one outside next to the kitchen and one in the master bedroom) were clean, but the ventilators in both were quite loud. The master bathroom had two sinks (which I really liked), but there was no bath salt, which I think is usually standard with a bathtub. They only provided bath foam, or something similar. I especially enjoyed the walk-in closet in the bedroom because it gave me more space to iron my dresses. One detail I appreciated was the labels on the light switches, indicating which switch controlled which function in the room, it was very convenient.
Outside the room, the resort is surrounded by lots of trees and greenery, all well-maintained. This helped create a sense of comfort, especially when walking under the sun between areas in the resort.
The main pool, shared with the Dhawa Hotel next door (as both belong to the same owner), was also a highlight. We only went there once, but from what we saw, it’s quite large and seems perfect for families with children, they must love it. The pool also faces the ocean, but unfortunately, the beach wasn’t very clean. It definitely didn’t feel as pristine as beaches in Phu Quoc, Lang Co, or some of the bays in Quy Nhon.
There are only two restaurants WITHIN both the resort and hotel, so on the weekend, it was completely crowded. The staff seemed overwhelmed and lacked training in handling high demand or responding quickly to basic customer requests. Some younger staff members seemed inexperienced and unsure of how to handle our follow-up questions. That said, all the staff were very kind and tried their best to help. They probably just need more experience and better training to close the skills gap.
Also, it’s a bit strange for such a large resort and hotel that they don’t have a proper bar. There was only a poolside bar, and while we noticed they had something like a rooftop area, it was unfortunately under maintenance. I had two cocktails each night, and both times I only finished about 1/8 of the drink. So you really can’t expect too much in terms of drink quality.
However, the food was a completely different story, in a good way. I was satisfied with the seafood buffet at AZURA on our first night, and also enjoyed the experience at the Vietnamese/Asian restaurant NOOK on the second evening. For breakfast, they offered everything I normally like to eat, so I really ate a lot. The chefs at the egg and hot noodle stations were kind, and although they seemed busy, they worked hard to serve the large number of guests on Sunday morning.
To sum up, I would still recommend this place, especially for families and groups of friends. Their spacious villas are very comfortable and private, making them ideal for these...
