In Track and Trail River Camp, a long-held dream came true: six weeks of safari in a beautiful spot on the banks of the Luangwa River and game drives in the fantastic South Luangwa National Park. This was my sixth safari in Africa and the first in Zambia. I wanted to come here because of a photography friend who had two wonderful experiences here before. The lodge is beautifully located on the riverbank opposite the national park. There are detached guest houses and a few safari tents. The bar and restaurant are completely open. There is a cozy campfire area, and you overlook the river with hippos, crocodiles, various types of birds, and occasionally crossing herds of elephants. It is essentially a settlement in the wilderness where animals can roam freely. This makes it a true nature experience. There is always something to see and experience in the camp.|The atmosphere is particularly warm and hospitable. I felt welcome and quickly at home. The food is of high quality and staff makes a strong effort to please the guests. Because I stayed there relatively long, a friendly and engaged bond developed with the staff. My safari tent was well taken care of: a comfortable bed and a good bathroom. The tap water is safe to drink and there is 220 volts a.c. available with only a few hours of interruption per day, as the Zambian power grid cannot provide continuous power everywhere.|Also important: the camp is located close to the Luangwa bridge and the gate to the national park. It couldn't be closer, which means a short travel time to the park. The South Luangwa National Park lives up to its reputation: the landscape is beautiful and very varied, and as a nature photographer, I was completely in my element with the many animals I saw and their behavior. I experienced incredibly beautiful moments during the morning, afternoon, and evening drives. I went on 50 safari drives, and each day was different, bringing me something new. I owe many of those beautiful experiences to the excellent safari guides.|They are professionally trained, have a lot of knowledge about nature, master driving in rugged terrain, and spot wildlife better than anyone else. I have learned a lot, especially from the regular guide-driver with whom I have been 39 times. He anticipates incredibly well on the behavior of the animals, which not only allows you to see a lot, but also makes you feel safe. His motivation and passion for nature were heartwarming. I could not have had a better time and I am definitely planning to go again. For those who truly love safari and the African wilderness, this lodge has...
Read moreWe spent a beautiful week at Track And Trail River Camp. We organized 7 days of photographic safaris with Peter, an exceptional guide and photographer. Peter always managed to find ideas and photographic situations. The real secret is that Peter knows his park well and can focus on what you enjoy the most (birds or mammals). The photographic days allow you to enjoy the most beautiful colors and moments, experiencing the sunrises and sunsets inside the park. South Luangwa Park is slightly crowded at the entrance (there's only one gate from Mfuwe), but entering and exiting at the right photographic times, you hardly encounter anyone; in any case, just a few kilometers away from the gate, you find yourself completely alone. Peter knows his park and based on our requests/photographic hopes, he was able to find us beautiful situations. He taught us a lot and gave us advice to improve our photography skills. It was interesting to review some of our shots on the computer and see what he thought as a photographer; he gave us many tips.|We stayed in a beautiful house with a river view... we want to go back right away!||The lunches and dinners were fantastic; we recommend them to anyone passing by, even if they don't stay there overnight: stop for lunch and dinner at least, you will be extremely happy with this decision. The lunches and dinners were always different, always delicious, with a three-course daily menu that changed every time. The recipes and the quality were incredible, absolutely recommended... thanks to the chefs and thanks to Chici who oversees the entire kitchen and the menus! ||Again, thanks to Peter and Chici for welcoming us and helping us discover...
Read moreThough words can’t really express how thrilled we are with the entire experience, this was amazing! This was our fourth visit to track and trail, but for whatever reason it was just a bit more awesome! Perhaps it was that this was our first full board experience, but there aren’t enough stars to rate how great of a job they did! I love that the staff is familiar each time! Some companies go through employees so fast, the guests are not familiar to them….ever. That is not the business model of T&T and it shows! We feel like family here! Thanks for that, guys!||Firstly, Kirsten noted all of the needs and dietary restrictions of our group (my wife is on a cancer treatment diet so it mattered), then Chichi and crew implemented to perfection. The food was on time, and top notch! Nobody in our 6 person group had anything negative to say! Hats off to the chefs. The game drives and drivers were nothing shy of epic! We have stayed with one other “higher end” camp inside the park, and this experience was even better and more budget friendly! ||I wish I had thousands of dollars to tip the staff, as they all deserved way more than we have to give! ||Thanks again to all the staff, Chichi, Peter, Daniel (for being cool) , and Kirsten! ||We will be back……..FOR SURE! And if you are scrolling through choices, just stop wasting...
