Honeybear Guest Lodge — Hotel in Harare

Writing a very long overdue review for this wonderful place and the wonderful staff there after basing ourselves at Honeybear for a trip we took to Zim in April. I spent the initial first few nights with my 11 month old before heading off to Gweru and Shangani and returned with my husband for the last week in Harare. I cannot rate it highly enough- the staff went above and beyond and we felt like we’re at home away from home. Matt checked in regularly to see if we needed anything even while he was away on holiday towards the end. Stacey came to the rescue several times to help jump start our car (🫣) and Givemore cheerfully came to take breakfast orders every day. What a beautiful space! We needed accommodation for a night in Harare, and Honeybear Lodge was conveniently located within the beautiful suburb of Borrowdale. The rooms were modern and well furnished. The beds so comfortable. A delicious breakfast was served on our patio early before we caught a flight out. Service was exceptional from check-in to check-out. Nothing was too much trouble, and we even got cold beers delivered as a lovely extra. Fridge stocked with complimentary water and coke. The owner Mathew tries hard and cannot be faulted for effort. The staff are also very friendly and helpful and the security is good, something which is always important in Africa However the lodge needs lots of work and the bedrooms, although spacious as noted in previous reviews, leave a lot to be desired and are in poor state with paint peeling, floors in poor repair and generally very run down. I stay at a number of B and B's in Africa and in most of the really good one's the owners are very hands on in respect of keeping their properties in tip top shape.
