Lake Elizabeth is located deep in a beautiful part of the Otway Rangers, and I can highly recommend a day trip to visit the area. The carpark for Lake Elizabeth is a 7km’s drive out from the town of Forrest and the walking trail from the carpark to Lake Elizabeth is a short 1km walk through a tall eucalypt forest with dense fern gullies. When you reach the lake, you will be rewarded with a wonderful view overlooking a pristine lake punctuated by the trunks of dead trees and surrounded by a lush forest. On the day that we were there, we could see a platypus swimming in the middle of the lake. There is a 4.7km walk around the lake, but we didn’t...

We came here hoping to catch a glimpse of a certain animal. Although we didn’t spot any, the experience itself was really enjoyable. We didn’t join a tour but drove here on our own. The road was a bit tricky to navigate, and after parking, we hiked through the forest. If you're visiting in the afternoon, I’d recommend bringing a flashlight just in case it gets dark on your way back. Even without any animal sightings, the breathtaking lake views completely blew me away. I really hope this place stays as beautiful...

On our way back from Great Otway National Park, we decided to stop by Lake Elizabeth in hopes of spotting a platypus. Although we weren’t lucky this time, we did see several koalas along the road to the park. Just keep your eyes on the treetops and look for small furry balls resting in the eucalyptus branches. The walk around Lake Elizabeth is not difficult and takes about an hour. It’s a peaceful and scenic trail, perfect for nature lovers and those hoping to catch a glimpse of some of Australia’s...

It's a beautiful lake inside the great Otway national park. Loved it. The walk to the lake from the car park is nice too. There is a campground near the carpark. The lake itself has clean and clear water, worth the visit. But make sure, if you are following the Google maps direction to the lake. Don't follow the lake direction, follow the parking direction and it will take you to the lake car park. The lake in the Google maps will only lead to a closed road.

Did the loop (~5km return from carpark) on a good weather day and so glad we managed to spot the platypus! 😍 (Worth the efforts of driving 2hrs from Melbourne!). They are at a distance though and hard to get good shots / footages. Observing them swimming around is pleasant, best to bring along binocular. 😁

Absolutely lovely walk, gorgeous surrounds that make it well worth your effort. During winter the tracks are wet, muddy and very slippery so that needs to be taken into account. Platypus sightings are often seen in the early morning in the lake, so set off early if that's something you'd like to see.
