Lake Elizabeth is located deep in a beautiful part of the Otway Rangers, and I can highly recommend a day trip to visit the area. The carpark for Lake Elizabeth is a 7km’s drive out from the town of Forrest and the walking trail from the carpark to Lake Elizabeth is a short 1km walk through a tall eucalypt forest with dense fern gullies. When you reach the lake, you will be rewarded with a wonderful view overlooking a pristine lake punctuated by the trunks of dead trees and surrounded by a lush forest. The road was a bit tricky to navigate, and after parking, we hiked through the forest. If you're visiting in the afternoon, I’d recommend bringing a flashlight just in case it gets dark on your way back. Although we weren’t lucky this time, we did see several koalas along the road to the park. Just keep your eyes on the treetops and look for small furry balls resting in the eucalyptus branches.
