Hiking Mt Baw Baw (Early November) - all you need to know. If you are going to hike Mt Baw Baw (including Mueller's Lookout), Mt St Phillack and Mt St Gwinear- Because it is confusing and there were no other guides explaining it Park at carpark 1 (relatively clean toilets here) walk to the very end of Mt Baw Baw Village (which is empty at this time of year) to the skiosk turn right and it will take you to the summit trail. (NOTE: If you want to skip Mt Baw Baw "summit" and Mueller's Lookout (which is a decent lookout) turn left at the kiosk instead and follow the chair lift road to the trail (it is steep)) Follow the trail (Mueller's Lookout and mt Baw Baw summit is on this trail but Mueller's is the only view you'll get) to the village trail (orange arrows) which starts at Junction 9 (5 ways hub) from summit trail take village trail to Tanjil plan/McMillans at five ways hub (it is next to the trail you were just on... NOTE the map doesn't match the arrows... follow the arrows!) continue on village trail to Junction 12- National Park Junction to St Phillack saddle (NOTE: you have to be on this track to get to Mt st Gwinear) the track narrows here and the boardwalks and path are in bad shape so watch your footing - hiking boots and waterproof socks are recommended -Mt St Phillack saddle doesn't have a view but you have to go through here to mt st Gwinear. Turn at massive boulders that look like a cave (wooden sign indicates turn off) Some rock hopping and bog hopping will get you to the top where you'll get an obstructed view of mountains on a clear day... see photos from Gwinear summit you can go to the st Gwinear carpark or back the way you came (back to mt baw baw vilkage or to do other trail) Trail conditions: wide path on summit and village trail but it gets wet- don't wear your nice new sneakers 😉... boardwalks in this section and on the st Phillack trail are broken and uneven in some parts. The Phillack trail is narrow and uneven and not maintained as well, so you will need to watch your footing... the bark strips are everywhere and you can get tangled so be careful Facilities:multiple big car parks (usually empty this time of year) toilets at carpark one and another just after the dingo enclosure (no dingoes there ATM) Is it worth it? - it's relatively easy to moderate but if youre after views... note you will be walking through alpine forests for 90% of the trail and will only get glimpses of views. With the exception of Mueller's Lookout- the views are obstructed but on a clear day you can see the mountains (see pics) SO if you're after the hike itself it's relatively good... if you’re after spectacular...
Read moreNEVER BOOK TICKETS ONLINE, NO REFUNDS. We made the mistake and were refused a refund on our arrival to the mountain, only a single, short intermediate run was available and a single ski lift for everyone to share. Everything else was closed. I told the staff that a blue run was not suitable for first time skiers, they told me I could purchase extra tickets to use the Toboggins instead, see below for photos of the Toboggin area... The easier section of the blue run was about 25m long, but the line went up up hill for 17m, leaving only 7 meters to ski on a gentle slope before getting to the line. There were about 30 people doing ski lessons, which meant they went to the front of the line each time. While waiting in line, I remember seeing the same instructor and girl get on the lift, come down the slope and re-enter the line 3 times while we waited. Lunch time was slightly less busy, I quenched my thirst with a small can of Redbull for $8. Also on arrival to the car park the driver that was behind be pulled in front of my car, almost attempted to pull into the spot next to me, I shut my door and waved him in so he can park, the poorly shaven and angry looking man says out his window "I work here, Do you have a pass!?" "Do you have snow chains?" He left us alone after I showed him our invoice/chains and he had no reason to ask us to leave (there was no snow or need for chains). Maybe Baw Baw employees should not be hassling customers in the carpark and instead wear a uniform, smile and say "Good morning, welcome to Mount Baw Baw the information desk is just over there" The staff at the ski hire shop were great on the other hand, must be...
Read moreI recently visited this resort with my family and I must say, I am utterly disappointed with the experience we had. The resort's website advertised a full-day resort pass and toboggan passes for kids, which we eagerly purchased online in advance. However, upon arriving at the resort, we discovered a deceitful policy regarding the toboggan passes that ruined our entire day.
To our shock, we found out that the toboggan passes were only valid for the morning hours, rendering them practically useless for us. This information was conveniently hidden in the fine print, which we missed while making the purchase. As a result, our children were left heartbroken and unable to access the designated play area during our visit.
This misleading practice is absolutely unacceptable. As customers, we relied on the information provided by the resort's website, expecting transparency and fairness. Instead, we were met with a blatant disregard for our time and money. It is disheartening to see a business resort to such deceptive tactics to lure customers in.
Furthermore, the resort's staff did not offer any solutions or alternatives to rectify the situation. Their lack of empathy and willingness to accommodate disappointed guests was truly disappointing. We were left feeling ignored and undervalued as paying customers.
It is vital for businesses to uphold their promises and ensure that the services they offer align with the expectations they set. Unfortunately, this resort failed to deliver on...
