Ideally we would give this a 3.5 but a 3 felt too low and a 4 too high. This tour wasn't really for us and we would not recommend this tour for anyone under 35 years old...
Positives - the rainforest is beautiful; we saw every stop we wanted to see and there was enough time for us to see everything we wanted. We also saw crocs, cassowaries and snakes. The lunch was good - chicken wraps or steak/fish with bread, salad, pasta and potato salad (if you like your steak bloody or rare avoid that option as they are well done). The ice cream was good, some of the flavours are once in a lifetime and a must try, albeit a little unusual. It also rained, as expected in a rainforest, so no complaints there!
Negatives - unfortunatley, we felt there was no personality or humour in the tour. The tour guide spoke too much, mostly about himself or other times he had run the tour. He also didn't encourage introductions on the bus so the group didn't gel like a usual tour group. We were also told endless stories and information about plants and trees - We want to learn about plants etc within reason, but it felt like an agriculture tour by the end. We would prefer more historical information, or humour.
The walks were really nice but we stopped ALL THE TIME to be told about more and more plants and trees. We personally would have preferred longer walks without the constant stopping. I would recommend the tour guide giving you the option, ie. Walk this by yourself and meet back on the bus or walk with me
It felt a little overpriced for us... for lunch you have water/tea/coffee as a drink or you have to pay extra for drinks on top. You also have to pay for your ice-cream when other tours were getting there's included. I understand the trip included national park fees, ferries etc etc but we felt our value for money wasn't as good as other tours we have experienced. The price could feel better value with ice-cream and/or one drink included.
If you love learning about every tree and plant at a slow pace this may be for you. For us, we would have gone with a different tour more catered to under 30s or done it self guided...
Read moreNot worth the $900++ for a family of 4. Should just self drive to the Daintree and book your own boat for crocodile spotting.
The tour guide Rob was trying, but his humour was just dark humour and the whole day went on and on about the 100 different ways one can die in FNQ and Daintree rainforest and how Cassowary or Feral hogs would eat you. A bit too much of a skeptic to be a family tour guide unfortunately.
Their tour’s tie up with “on the turps” restaurant’s strict timing restriction for a 130pm lunch kept the tour on toes for making lunch time, kept suggesting we skip Cape Tribulation and just go to Thornton beach and have more time for lunch. “Thornton Beach is as good if not better”.
Personally I don’t care for Cape Tribulation but there were many in the group that wanted to do Cape Trib. Not good to have paid good money only to be encouraged not to care about a part of the itinerary in a bid to be ushered to a really poor lunch experience at “On The Turps”.
I don’t know if other rainforest tours are the same, but if they are, I don’t recommend this tour in general. money much better spent on the Reef tours.
Edit in response to unfair personal attack on my kids: Hey @ Owner of Tony’s Tropical Tour: You should learn to keep Google reviews fair and accept reviews even if they reflect shortcomings of your service. I stated nothing but facts and yet you came back with personal attacks. Fact: My kids are 8 and 10. So they met the age limits. If you don’t welcome kids, raise the age limit from 7. Fact: My kids were really well behaved on the tour and we took them aside when they did anything mischievous. Fact: If Rob found/heard my kids to be kicking the back of the seats, he could have told them firm and kindly not to and they would have stopped. But he didn’t. He came and suggested to my wife “perhaps you should split them up”. My kids are exemplary students at school, very disappointing to see this sort of personal attack retort. Again, just keeping things factual here. On the Turps is not a “5 star restaurant” by any means. Anyone who is about to go for this tour feel free to test their...
Read moreThis trip was probably my highlight of my time visiting FNQ. Our guide Steve was friendly & super knowledgeable. I did Tour A. We were very lucky to see a father Cassowary with his chicks, but then just down the road got an absolute TREAT seeing the large female up very very close. The croc river cruise was awesome, we were lucky enough to see the huge alpha male on the bank, but also saw some teeny tiny babies on the mangroves. Noah Valley was amazing swimming although I wish we got a bit more time there! The walking track on the private property was really lovely. It was great getting picked up and dropped off at our accommodation as well. Lunch was nice, and we also got a lovely morning tea. It was a great way to see the Port Douglas to Cape Trib area, especially as a solo traveller. On the driving parts, Steve was over the mic with lots of information about the area, which I thought was really great. Mossman Gorge was great, I liked how we only did the short loop there as its open to public so we can go back any time, whereas Noah Valley is something you could only see with the tour. No time for swimming at Mossman Gorge, but Noah Valley makes up for it x100! Also, the ice cream stop on the way home was amazing, I don’t even eat dairy but i had to try the ice cream because it looked (and was!) so good. It was an amazing day out and I would recommend it to everyone who’s up for a bit of walking, learning & sight seeing! Shout out to Steve, what a top bloke. Can’t wait to visit again and check out some of the other tours that ‘Tony’s...
