Summary: Rate it, artisanal gelato but at these prices / serve sizes probably an incidental, rather than destination gelateria. Go for: pistacchio and seasonal options.
We're suddenly awash with gelato bars in the GC. There was a (dark) period, when Messina closed in Kirra (and hadn't reopened further north) where the only selection was from highly manufactured American or European chain selections, unless you crossed the border south or travelled to Brisbane.
La Macelleria's owner is from Brisbane and it's handmade quality would stand its own ground against any Sydney or Melbourne gelateria. Possibly even Italy - I probably haven't had a pistacchio like that since Florence. Some choice Italian and custom gelato items for sale. Again, the high quality we really want in GC!! Service is lovely and it's obvious the owner is passionate and talented.
Unfortunately, the serving sizes and prices aren't in keeping with local expectations. As with other reviewers, we were delighted by the ice cream but not the price for volume. The photo is of a small serving of two flavours for $6.80 (pistacchio e tiramisu, fantastic and ok respectively).
Its lack of foot traffic (comparable to Surfers and even Kirra) and sometimes tight parking means that it needs to build a steady stream of loyal fans. However, discovery is hampered by range and price-for-serving size ratios, which can be...
Read moreIf you’re looking for the most authentic Italian gelato outside of Italy, La Macelleria is an absolute must-visit. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by the warm and friendly store owner, who clearly has a deep passion for crafting the finest gelato.
Every single flavor is worth trying, but my personal favorites are Pistachio, with its incredibly smooth and creamy texture that is simply out of this world, and Honeycomb, which delivers the perfect balance of sweetness and crunch. And if you love the classic combination of chocolate and hazelnut, the Bacio flavor is an absolute dream.
What sets La Macelleria apart from your typical gelato outlet is the dedication to quality—everything is made fresh daily, in small batches, ensuring the highest level of flavor and texture in every scoop. This isn't just dessert; it's an experience.
If you've never had authentic Italian gelato, you owe it to yourself to stop by. Be sure to ask about the fascinating history of the store—especially the story behind the butcher’s cow in their logo—and prepare to taste the best gelato you never...
Read moreDelicious gelato, lousy serves. Medium gelato for $8.70 with two flavours was not even 2 full scoops. A pity as gelato is great. Compared to the gelato shops in Broadbeach, the servings were a third of the size. Do better. Your product is superior but our serves today were stingy - not value for money or like photos I've seen promoting the store. We were served by a woman who was training a young man: and another man was also giving him tips - but both these apparently experienced servers, were giving small serves. ...
