I had heard many great things about Tugun Satellite Hospital from close friends, customers, and the wider community, so instead of waiting at the new TVH I decided to take my child to TSH instead, we arrived just before 9pm. It was an hour before their listed closing time of 10 PM. We arrived and sat in the car park for a few minutes, unsure if the facility was open because the front entrance was poorly lit. The only light seemed to be coming from inside, which made it look closed. Despite this, we decided to be brave and walked over to the front door since my child needed to be seen, and I also wanted to get checked out for persistent headaches, a sore neck, and tingling in my legs and feet following a car accident earlier that week.
As we approached the doors, they opened. Relieved, we walked in and made eye contact with the receptionist/admin. However, we were not greeted or acknowledged, so I initiated the conversation. After a brief exchange, she directed me to the nurse on duty.
When I greeted the nurse, she asked me why we were looking to be seen. I began to explain our situation, but she abruptly cut me off with a āNo, no chanceā before I could even finish my second word. Stunned, I needed a moment to process what had just happened. I clarified her abrupt response, noting that she hadn't even heard more than a couple of words from me. She then explained that they only had one person on duty and that we couldn't be seen.
I wasnāt mad or rude, just deeply hurt and disappointed. I provided feedback to the nurse, explaining how it felt to be cut off and not given the space to respond to her question. I suggested that if there wasn't the capacity to help us, it would be more considerate to let patients finish their explanations before informing them. She then anttempted to ābe interestedā and asked me to explain my situation again, but I declined, saying it didnāt matter because she had already made it clear that she wasn't interested in anything I had to say and Iād rather not continue to waste either of our time tonight. We started to leave, and she attempted to show care, but by then, I just wanted to leave before I began to cry due to the lack of basic human kindness we were shown.
I'm deeply concerned about the impact this could have on others, especially those struggling with poor mental health. In a time of need, people are directed to seek help at facilities such as this one, expecting that support is available. They deserve compassion and understanding, not the abrupt dismissal we experienced. The potential impact of such an experience could be devastating, especially if met by someone in a fragile state. The sole reason I've written this review is because what happened tonight needs to never happen again. I have family and friends who have taken themselves to hospitals before to seek safety from themselves and their thoughts. It would be sad to see the impact of tonight interaction on someone like them.
Showing kindness and genuine care doesnāt mean you wouldāve been able to see us tonight, no more availability means exactly that but I would have felt seen and heard.
I hope that the hospital takes this feedback onboard and works to ensure that all health care representatives are aware of how they show up for...
Ā Ā Ā Read more1st August I had presented late on a Friday night before close with an injured foot after falling on a few stairs at home. Could not weight bare and was in lots of pain. The triage nurse was so nice and I was seen super quickly. After x ray they explained no breaks and it is likely just a soft tissue injury. I was suprised as I was in a lot of pain but also- one of the carers questioned me- hadnāt I felt pain like this before? Rude- I wouldnāt be there otherwise. I felt like I was going to faint but they kindly gave me a lemonade , squeezed my foot into a boot (ouch) and sent me on my way on crutches with an ankle sprain fact sheet. The lovely nurse on way out suggested if I donāt feel like something is right, to go to Robina to get a CT. By Sunday the pain was unbearable so I presented to Robina with Satellite Dischage Letter. They could view a broken bone on Satellite Xray straight away but after having a CT it showed up 6 fractures- 3 dislocations and a severe Lisfranc Injury. Since then Ive spent a week in Pindara with an ice machine on -to get swelling down before they operated ( Dr Nihals the best) and then 2 weeks in Spendlove a recovery hospital. Still a long recovery to go until I can walk again. Never did I realise that I had done this much damage otherwise I would have presented straight to hospital. I understand that lisfrancs can be misdiagnosed and X-rays donāt always show up fractures but I also donāt think its as simple as sending me on with an ankle sprain factsheet ( I always said it was my foot and not my ankle that was injured)and a discharge letter that advised me that if pain persists after 2 weeks to get further imaging. Iāll be much more careful when going down...
