UPDATE: 14/4/23 - Two day golfing trip. We started at McCracken golf club in the morning and played South Lakes in the afternoon. Next morning, we played Lake Albert at Meningie and finally Tailem Bend. South Lakes golf course was in excellent condition. All the bunkers were manicured. The couch fairways had excellent coverage with the grass cut short allowing for excellent roll. The greens had just been mown - the ball rolled truly. UPDATE 12/8/22 It’s been sometime since our last round of golf at South Lakes. The weather was identical to our previous visit. Extremely windy and showery. To be expected in the middle of winter. We’ve had a lot of rain in the last few days and the course has held up really well. Fairways were in excellent condition. Bunkers were all manicured. The greens were fast and in excellent condition. Steve in the pro shop was very welcoming. Given the cost of fuel it would be great if the club had some of the special deals they’ve had in the past. These deals were attractive for day trippers like us Please read my previous reviews. UPDATE 21/8/20 An extremist windy day - 35-40kms. As expected and given we are in the middle of winter, the course was in excellent condition. We’ve had a lot of rain in the past week……… Drainage is excellent. The bunkers were manicured with a lovely white sand. Well done to the ground staff. Steve in the pro shop was very welcoming. Just an hours drive from Adelaide and well worth the trip. You won’t be disappointed. Please read my previous reviews. UPDATE: 19/6/20 Post Covid Restrictions. The fairways and bunkers were in excellent condition. The fairways in particular had excellent coverage with the ball sitting up beautifully. The greens were great to putt on....... they were quick!!!! Please read my previous reviews. UPDATE 3/1/20 A 40 degree day forecast...... we teed off at 6.30 and 15 degrees. The fairways and bunkers were in excellent condition. The fairways in particular had excellent coverage with the ball sitting up beautifully. The greens were understandably kept slightly long but still putted fine. By the time we had finished it was still a comfortable 29 degrees (at the same time it was 38 degrees in Adelaide). The course is great to play on all year round. Steve was very welcoming in the pro shop. Another great day out. Please read my previous reviews. UPDATE 2/8/19 We’ve had a very wet couple of weeks and decided to head down to South Lakes because of the sandy soil. We were not disappointed because the fairways were in excellent condition. The greens were extremely fast………… And made for challenging putting. The bunkers and surrounds were very well maintained. Another great day out.……… Looking forward to our next visit. UPDATE 10/5/19 An incredibly challenging day on the golf course. Wind gusts of 60 km an hour plus. You really had to think hard about every shot!! The course was in excellent condition, given the amount of rain. Steve in the pro shop was very welcoming. A challenging but great day out…… looking forward to our next visit. 3/2/19 South Lakes golf course at Goolwa is always in excellent condition......... fairways, bunkers and greens. Well done to the greens staff. Our golfing group play the course 3-4 times a year driving down from Adelaide. We usually visit when it is hot elsewhere ...... I’ve played this course when it’s 10° cooler compared to Adelaide. Excellent layout and a very easy walk. The “sandy soil” makes for excellent drainage and a great course to play all year round, particularly in winter when other golf courses are “boggy”. Staff are very friendly and so too are the members. On one of the rare hot days when we played, an elderly couple came out of their house and gave us cold drinks and icy poles!!! Always look forward to visiting.

This is a personal opinion and does not claim any universal validity: This golf course is rather average in difficulty and layout. There are houses very close to several holes. If you like your course flat and can shoot dead straight, fine. If you shank the occasional ball like I do then you'll lose several balls in people's front yards. On the upside, each hole has a nice description with tips and tricks.

Fantastic course, nice and open course with the odd water obstacle and well placed bunkers to keep you in tune. Pick your day for weather as it can be rather windy off the coast. Pro shop is great and friendly service all round, see you again soon👍

Booked golf for our family of 6 adults over Easter Sunday long weekend. First time players of golf and 4/6 of us who have never played golf were super excited at having a fun filled day out. Arrived at 10.30 am and advised of our booking, was then simply told the price and the buggies we hired were outside. No welcome to our club, have you played with us before etc etc as we expected. We then had to try and find where the first tee was. Not until they realised we didn’t know where to go same unhelpful staff member came out the front door of golf club, didn’t walk up to us, just pointed in the general direction of first tee. No map provided which, would of been very helpful. Thankfully a local player gave us directions. We also had no idea where the tracks for the buggies were. Then eventually realised there was no real tracks and we watched others just use the buggies on the fairways. Overall the day was fun but the staff member in the shop was unhelpful and seemed to resent first time visitors at the club. It gave us a bad experience starting our day. We expected more and was extremely disappointed, staff member seemed disinterested in us and just doing bare minimum. Expected more from a local club very...

I was part of a group that pre-booked a round with carts many months in advance. We booked it as part of my bucks, a weekend away with family and friends.

However, when we called a couple of days before to make sure our booking was still secure, we were told they transferred everything to a new booking system, and as a result, had given away our pre-booked carts to other players.

Instead of trying to resolve the issue by finding us some extra carts, taking the carts back from other players (since we had pre-booked them months ago, so you would assume we'd get priority), or some other solution, the staff simply refused to help and hung up the phone. We called multiple times to try to resolve the issue but the staff refused to help.

As you can imagine, it's difficult enough getting a group together with work and family commitments, travel, etc. And now South Lakes Golf Club have left a sour spot in our weekend away.

Absolutely terrible service and I will be telling family and friends to avoid South...
