Hyden Rock is actually where Wave Rock “sticks out” of. It is a huge rock that you can go for a walk around (over) which I recommend, the view is great! There are some metal steps with handrails to get you to the top of the rock. The first bit is a little bit steep, but then it flattens out and the walk is pretty easy. There are some interesting rock formations to see, a great view of the dam and markers along the way so you don’t get lost. Along the way there are some information signs to read and some man-made rock formations that are pretty cool. Getting back down, there is a chain-link rail you can hold on to for clambering down the rock but even though I like a challenge, I chose to go back the way I came…down the stairs. If you’re visiting Wave Rock, don’t skip the walk over Hyden Rock. It may not look like much but you get to see the scenery and like I said, the view is amazing.

Loved our weekend visit out to see this geographical wonder! The walking trails around this area are a must. They take you right around the rock itself to Hippos Yawn, salt pans and through the resort. A truly beautiful place to visit.

Deep quiet, like you can only get away from major towns and cities. Only the sound of wind and a few birds. Peaceful and soothing. An amazing natural feature.
