We’ve had enough of Smart Stone. After multiple bad experiences with their customer service and declining product quality, we will never return, and we strongly advise others to steer clear.
Months ago, we purchased several cubic metres of premium garden soil and underturf across multiple orders without issue. Recently, however, it seems this business has completely fallen apart. During a visit to purchase drainage gravel, we were “assisted” by a woman whose responses dripped with unnecessary sarcasm. When we asked about the difference between standard and recycled concrete drainage gravel, her condescending reply—“Well, one is made out of recycled concrete”—was as rude as it was unhelpful.
Unfortunately, that was just the start of our frustrations. We ordered 1 cubic metre of underturf for delivery and over 70sqm of turf for the following weekend. When the underturf arrived, it was blatantly not the same product we had received in the past—it was sub-par, to say the least. Calling to resolve the issue was an exercise in futility. The staff were rude, dismissive, and unprofessional.
We were told someone named John would call us back, but after waiting over an hour, we had to call again. The man who answered—who turned out to be John—initially denied even being him. His attitude was appalling, as was his insistence that the underturf was the same as always. When he finally admitted they had switched suppliers due to wet weather, his response was essentially: “Deal with it.” Only when we mentioned potentially cancelling our $2,000 turf order did he begrudgingly offer a partial replacement—an offer he clearly wasn’t enthusiastic about honouring.
When we visited the store the following morning to speak to someone in person, Mia was the only bright spot in this nightmare. She handled the situation professionally, but John’s attitude remained disgraceful. He wouldn’t even acknowledge us (we were standing less than an metre from him) and made it clear he couldn’t care less about our experience.
This company clearly has no regard for its customers or the quality of its products anymore. Due to the incompetence and delays, we had to cancel our turf order entirely. What should have been a straightforward process turned into an infuriating ordeal.

However, the delivery got delayed, causing my landscaper to leave and charge me additional fee the next day. When I called Smart Stone to inquire about the delay, the customer service representative was shockingly rude and unhelpful, offering no solutions except just straight away telling me to take a refund and cancel the order.
