I've done this trail so many times. Depending on how I'm feeling, I start at Eltham or Hustbridge, take the Diamond Creek onto the Main Yarra Trail and cycle all the way to Melbourne.
On a good day, it's one of the best trails in Melbourne. I took my brother for his first ride in Melbourne. He saw kangaroos, a plethora of birds and incredible views. On warmer days, be weary of snakes lining the trails.
It takes about two hours from Hurstbridge. One hour thirty from Eltham. With my brother and at his pace, it was two hours from Eltham.
Make sure you take plenty of water, as taps are few and far between in some places. There's not many shops. I've cycled all the way to Port Melbourne before now. As the Main Yarra Trail runs all the way to to near Birrarung Marr.
