Gourmet prices without the gourmet! Ever since this IGA changed to a good grocer it has gone downhill considerably. Twice I have purchased pies that must have been in the warmer for at least 2 days, the pastry was so dark and dry it basically fell apart as soon as I bit into it. If I hadn’t gotten all the way home before realising I would have taken it back. Same again for a slice of carrot cake, so dry the only thing having moisture left in it was the icing. Clearly they have an issue with throwing uneaten items out at the end of the day as the pie’s definitely should be. Obviously the cake will last a bit longer but I think they are pushing the boundaries with that too. Not only is this a health risk but poor quality food for customers paying top dollar.
The bain-marie section is also of poor quality, generally a really basic pasta with tomato sauce and minimal amounts of protein or chicken wings or basic salad with some leftover roast beef run through it and still $15 for a small container. Absolute rip off for the quality. Go to any other good grocer and you’ll find an amazing selection of delicious curries and pastas, not here though, this would have to be the worst good grocer in WA.
They also used to have decent specials on many items particularly the Fremantle roasters coffee but now price is over the top, can get it cheaper at Scutti which at least has a genuine range of gourmet food. Better off driving to scutti or the other good grocer in Applecross as at least you get good quality for you dollar here.
Hope the manager can address the issues of quality control soon as surely I can’t be the only one buying terribly old...
Read moreI was driving pass this place last night and literally lured by its outer appearance to step in the place. I was stunned as soon as I walked in. The decoration and design was just five-stared ( Oh-wow). The ambient just made me feel like I was in the paradisiacal version of supermarket. The most impressive area , in my humble opinion, is the Get fresh in which they arrange fruit and vegetable into shape ( see 5th picture) They also have a wide collection of cheese in the middle. Moreover, I was so tempted to purchase the beef jerkey; however, they are exorbitantly expensive ( the cheapest one was 18.99$/ 100 gram). There is the self-served buffet styled where you can pick up the sustainable containers , which come in large and small size, and scope up the hot food available there. Next to that, it was a fridge full of variety of ready -to - eat food ( well, obviously you have to heat it up). I cannot guarantee but they looked homemade. Choices were quite impressive from pasta to risotto. Other parts of the shop are neat and tidy. They sell regular everyday use products like other supermarket. However, they also have some exotic merchandises- such as different sorts of teas I have never seen. I almost brought a can of Japanese matcha power but it is 30$; thus, it was a no. I do believe in Asian shop they sell cheaper than that. In the nut shell , go check the place out. :) Sorry I decided to deduct 1 star as the prices of groceries are...

Their (hot) take-away meals are mediocre (much better take-away meals are available at the other Good Grocers). I purchased a curry meal here a few weeks back which was inedible, so got thrown in the bin. The beef they used wasn't just cheap cuts, it was also old (borderline stinky). It made me wonder if they're using up produce that is on the verge of expiry.
And what is with the croissants? Seven bucks for a "Rotto" croissant which is filled with unpleasant marzipan flavouring. The texture is all wrong too. Worst croissant I've ever (not) eaten - it too ended up in the bin. I also recently bought some expensive specialty cheese that was 'off' when I opened it (another one for the bin). Also, why do the 'Good Farmer' eggs smell like synthetic fragrance? That surely can't be good.
I realise that they have to compete with ColesWorth, but they can do better. I don't mind paying a bit extra if the food is quality, but not when it's fit for the bin. Then I just...
