Attended on the 27th February 2025. Local cafe with a few good menu options. Unfortunately I thought staff were rude and this soured my experience.
Food: cafe has some good options for food that are different from the usual e.g risotto balls, curry puffs, laksa. I only had a hot chocolate which was nice, my friend ordered the laksa and she thought it was nice.
Location/facilities: located in the corner of the Brentwood local shopping precint, there is plenty of parking around. It’s a small-medium sized cafe. Nothing flash but comfortable.
Service: At first, I found the staff to be friendly. There was an issue I found with the toilet, so they let me use staff bathrooms while they cleaned it. Ordering and table service went fine too. However around 2.15 Pm, we noticed they started packing the dining area up. It was a rainy day so not many customers were left. Around 2.30pm they had packed all the dining area, and my friend and I were the only ones left. I checked closing time on the door which said 3pm, so we made a note to each other to leave in around 10-15 minutes as my friend was still finishing her hot drink. A couple of minutes later, one of the staff approached us and told us they were closing up. She started walking away but then turned and came back to ask if we wanted her to put the rest of the drink in a takeaway cup. We found this to be the ultimate rudeness. To be approached like that when we had ordered before kitchen closed and closing time was still about 30 minutes away, is just plain rude. This is not how customers should be treated, rushed off. I note there are historical comments of people being approached similarly because staff have decided they want to close early. It’s poor customer service.
Overall: unfortunately being pushed to leave early soured our experience and I would no longer...
Read moreWe went here for the first time the other day. My partner had the big breakky and I had avocado with toast and mushrooms and the açai bowl. I'm vegan and my partner isn't, so it's hard to find somewhere nice to eat together. There were no vegan options on the menu, but I could order single items that were ok and obviously the açai bowl. Unfortunately, the açai bowl didn't contain fresh fruit, but frozen and they were very mushy and not nice to eat. Maybe people would order this item more if they put fresh berries in instead of frozen. The avocado tasted really weird and I was told it had lemon juice and pepper on it which was not stated on the menu, so I asked for normal avocado. It took a good 10mins for my "fresh" avocado to arrive and in the meantime my toast was cold and the açai had melted. Unfortunately, the "fresh" avocado didn't taste fresh at all, but quite old and on the verge of being off, so I couldn't eat it. My partner's breakfast was ok, but he thinks the sausages tasted like they were frozen before cooking. This is a quite expensive place in the middle of a good area, but unfortunately the quality of the food does not reflect that at all. Also, the pot of tea for two was actually a pot of tea for one. Sorry,...
Read moreNil points!! If you drive to a cafe, order and pay for your food, you do expect to get it delivered for your table. However my father wanted to go to this cafe with me as a quiet lunch before I travelled back to the UK and although we got our tea (disgusting brand of Eng Brfast) and his coffee, our 2 meals were not delivered. Considering all they had to do was put a pre prepared item in microwave, add one scoop of salad and deliver to a table in a near empty restaurant, it shouldn't be too hard? After 25 mins and trying to catch the eye of the waiter who took the order but was too busy describing some dance moves to his colleagues to pay any attention to the patrons, I vocally called him over, cancelled the order and asked for a refund. Platitudes of "Really sorry, don't know what happened to the order" fell on deaf ears as my father is aged and was hungry and it was a late lunch for him. They didn't even offer to give us the beverages for free so you have now lost a regular customer and too, I have told many people at St Ives village not to bother going back. Forget this cafe and go elsewhere if you actually...
