The Nobbies View Point sits at the wild western tip of Phillip Island and rewards even a short visit with the sort of coastal drama usually reserved for long hikes. A gently sloping boardwalk leads you across windswept headlands to a lookout that feels almost suspended above Bass Strait. From the railing you can trace the outline of Seal Rocks in the distance, watch waves boom through the blowhole cave and spot seabirds riding the updrafts against a backdrop of deep green water. When a southerly rolls in, spray drifts high enough to taste salt on the breeze and the whole scene changes colour by the minute. The walk itself is easy. Upper sections are flat and wide enough for prams and wheelchairs, with information panels that explain the geology and point out where the huge fur‑seal colony hauls out on calm days. Lower spurs have a few steps but repay the effort with closer views of tide pools and, if you are lucky, little penguins darting for cover under the boardwalk. It is always cooler than you expect, so a jacket and hair tie save the day, and springtime brings low‑growing wildflowers that soften the rugged basalt cliffs. Facilities keep the focus on the landscape. Toilets, a café and a souvenir shop sit back at the visitor centre, leaving the headland pleasantly uncluttered. Ample parking makes timing flexible, though sunset fills quickly with photographers staking out spots for the golden light on the rocks. Bring binoculars for seal watching, arrive early if you want a quiet stretch of deck and leave your hat in the car unless it is well strapped down. An hour here can feel like a full coastal escape without ever leaving the boardwalk.

This view was so beautiful. I went early morning before the rush and felt like I was standing on the bottom of the world. Absolutely breathtaking

Nobbies Viewpoint – Victoria I may not call this the most stunning view I’ve ever seen, but I truly admire the effort and attention to detail that went into creating this place. The whole area is very well-maintained, thoughtfully designed, and extremely clean and accessible. From the boardwalk to the viewing decks, everything is built to allow visitors to enjoy the coastal scenery in a safe and comfortable way. There are plenty of spots to stop, take photos, and enjoy the sea breeze. The walkways are wide and well-marked, making it easy for everyone—including families with kids or elderly visitors—to explore. I really appreciate the care that must have gone into developing this site. Whoever was behind this project clearly had a vision not just for a viewpoint, but for a complete visitor experience. You can tell that it’s not just about the view—it’s about making sure people feel welcome and relaxed while they’re here. If you’re already in the Phillip Island area, this spot is definitely worth a visit. It’s peaceful, clean, and well thought out—a great place to take a walk and clear your mind with the sound of waves and fresh air.

Beautiful Winter Visit – Penguins Were a Bonus! 🐧

We visited The Nobbies Viewpoint during winter with the kids and had a fantastic time exploring the area. The coastal scenery is absolutely stunning, with dramatic views of the ocean and rugged cliffs—well worth the trip even on a chilly day.

The boardwalks make it easy to explore with children, and the kids loved spotting wildlife. We were thrilled to see a couple of penguins tucked inside their nests, which was such a special highlight for all of us.

Overall, it’s a must-visit spot on Phillip Island—perfect for a family stroll, taking in the fresh sea air, and enjoying the incredible views. Highly recommend bringing a warm jacket in winter, as it can get...
