The WORST GOLF CLUB Iāve ever dealt with! Their no walk-ins and pre-pay only policy is extremely inflexible. I pre-paid for a mixed pennants practice game which didnāt eventuate because they closed the course due to heavy rain. They reluctantly offered a credit which I took up yesterday. We just started our round and the massive storm cell came through with lightning and drenching fairways and greens. We couldnāt even finished the 1st hole. They stopped play as there was lightning around. We decided to call it quits as there was more storm warning. Went back to the pro shop with the reasonable hope that we can have a credit and come back to play on a better day. The pro shop guy was rather rude and said sorry no refund no credit the course isnāt closed yet you can wait around until the storm moves on. We are visitors from an hour away, were already soaked, and didnāt want to play in such horrid conditions. We asked if we can at least get our cart fee $50 back as we couldnāt even finish the 1st hole, we only hit 3 shots. The pro shop guy just said āno, tough luck, we donāt give any refund. Once youāve paid youāre done whether you play or notā. Most decent golf courses would at least offer a credit to come back another day. We wouldnāt mind if we actually got to play a few holes, but only hitting 3 shots, thatās beyond ridiculous. It appears that Muirfield is in the business of taking your money and not providing the service. I have heard some bad things about them but this just tops it. It was my first time trying the course. I would have liked to play more than 3 shots. Iāve golfed all around the world and organised many social golfing groups, unfortunately Muirfield will never be on my list of recommendations. It is extremely disappointing but I hope that they will enjoy my $150 donation as that will be the only money they will ever get...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have played twice at Muirfield GC in the last week and think its under par for a private club. The course itself is ok, forgiving and in good condition for the lack of water we are having. Its walkable but not well signed between some holes. The score cards dont have a course map either. When I phoned and booked with Dean he was friendly and helpful. The first game I played, the small old guy was fine, just told me to follow the group infront. The second game, we had a voucher from crazy golf deals. I have used these many times and in every case, pro shops just want the voucher no. from your smart phone. The old guy in the pro shop on this occasion was quite rude. Firstly he wanted a hard copy, which I didnt have. He then gave an email so we could send. We had to do twice as he wanted a pdf, not a screen shot. He then wanted a driving licence for cart and to fill out a terms form. Eventually he gave us the cart key and said we need to tee off "now", even though we were still 5 mins before booked time and had to load the cart. Even when I returned the key 4 hours later and said thank you, he looked annoyed I had disturbed him from adding something up. if I hadnt already purchased the voucher I was have left as my partner had a half day from work so we could have a game together. It set a bad mood. We did have our complimentary drink in the club house, barman was friendly, and a meal in the chinese restaurant which was both nice and good service, with great views of the course. If Muirfield want more members, it needs to start with customer service as there is better public courses locally. I think any man is more sensitive when people are rude when they are with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've now attempted to play Muirfield twice. On the first occasion I called to confirm my booking for the Sunday competition and was informed in a blunt manner that my groups booking had been cancelled because other members had wanted to play that morning. Disregarding the fact that our booking was made a week in advance. On the second occasion I arrived at the course to play a social round with my father who's no spring chicken anymore and requires a motorised cart to get around hilly courses. Prior to arrival I again called ahead of time and was assured motorised carts were in operation and wouldn't be an issue. However... once inside the pro shop the older gentlemen behind the counter in a blunt and unforgiving manner informed us that no carts were out on course, and to just 'walk it'. After again informing him of my fathers age he didn't offer an apology and said the conditions are what they are.
Would never recommend this course to anyone I knew, The course itself looks in great condition, however the hassle of dealing with the staff in the pro shop makes playing golf nearly impossible and would ruin the experience even if you finally made it to...
