This is a mixed review, I know the service can be good and I know the food can be better but today (28th Dec) it was sadly a fail for us and my family who had flown into SA.
We had driven up and spent the morning enjoying the Barossa, then came here for lunch. We were seated quite quickly and a quick call earlier that day asking to add 2 more adults and a 3 year old was easy on the the phone but then only 1 more seat was added when we were there. But we made it work and staff helped with the young one.
Ordered via the app, were advised that anything ordered within 2 minutes on the same table came out on the same docket, meaning it should also come out at the same time.
6 adults and 1 child meals ordered. 2 meals from 2 different orders arrived within 10 minutes. It went downhill from here. One meal was a Yiros. Tasty but it was as though the meat was jerky dried and not that hot - but I ate it anyway
The toastie was ok but more bread than actual filling. The chicken burger never arrived, the pizza came after 30 minutes and the kids meal 15 minutes later and the sweet potato chips never arrived.
We went up to enquire about it on several occasions were rudely told the food had come out already. It had not, easy to check too by the plates on the table but were told “we are slammed today so this is what happens” and “we are super busy, just hold on it’s coming”. By this point some had finished food, a 3 year old was grumpy and we were just ready to leave.
The food isn’t ever a 10/10 but normally much better than this and the service could at least have had a smile. From us observing the staff (we had 45 minutes to waste while waiting) there was seemingly no organisation to anything being done so we wondered what had happened.
But then moving to the bathrooms, they would not pass inspection at all. No soap, seemingly for days as the actual dispensers were dried and crusty, floors in desperate need of a wash and toilet bowls and urinals that hadn’t seen bleach in a while. Standards need to be stepped up here for the health of patrons.
All in all disappointing and sadly not a place the family want to return to. It’s been better so whatever has happened in the past 8 months it’s really sad to see it decline as it was once a great place...
Read moreAs a chocolate tragic, I really wanted to like this place. From the first impressions, it was obvious this was built by a large corporation with lots of money to spend, rather than a group of artisans. In fact, I was inadvertently calling it the "Barossa Chocolate FACTORY" until I realised my mistake. The shop is laid out like a supermarket with all the packaging looking the same and all lined up in the same way. The rocky road samples were nice but had a precise, mass-produced feel rather than a handmade feel, as did the chocolate button samples. Expect to pay $9 for a small block of plain chocolate and $13 if anything is added to it. The layout of the place is strange with everyone entering and leaving through the one narrow door. Even on the quiet day we were there, the main entrance was jammed with people. There is no design around pedestrian flow and I would hate to be there when it is busy. Wine tasting is tucked around the corner and out of sight with wine tasters having to make their way past the ice cream stand, through the main door, past the chocolate shop counter and through the cafe via the cafe counter with people lining up to order coffees to get there. The cafe was nicely laid out with a nice outlook, quality fittings and the all-female staff (where were the guys?) were really nice. Everyone at our table agreed, though, that the coffee was bitter, luke warm and tasteless. Other than the name and its location, there is nothing obvious linking the chocolate products to the area - this could have been a chocolate factory anywhere. I'll go back in a few months once it's settled but they have a lot of work to do. I almost gave it 2 stars but the front-of-house staff...
Read moreNestled within the enchanting ambiance of Barossa Wine region I stumbled upon a sanctuary of indulgence and refinement during the challenging times of Covid. It was only last year that I uncovered this place, and since then, it has become my go-to destination for an unforgettable experience with friends and family if I am in the Barossa region.
What truly sets this place apart are the diverse experiences and workshops it offers. Recently, I had the pleasure of partaking in a sublime chocolate and wine pairing session. Guided by the knowledgeable and gracious Rachel, each sip and bite unveiled a symphony of flavors, perfectly harmonized to tantalize the taste buds. For those abstaining from alcohol, fear not, for there are cordial and chocolate pairing sessions tailored just for you.
After the delightful session, we came to the café for lunch. The scenic views of the small lake added an extra layer of charm to the dining experience.
No visit would be complete without a trip to the shop, where shelves adorned with an array of chocolates in nice packaging. From classic favorites to innovative creations, there's something to suit every palate. And glimpses of the bustling chocolate workshop behind the scenes only add to the allure.
