The whole experience is amazing and the set up and logistics are world class. The check in, access to Port Arthur Historic Site, bag check and then boat cruise to the hike - went like clockwork. The beach entry is memorable, the scenery on the hike unforgettable. The huts are architecturally stunning and designed in a way that socialising is so natural. Access to gas stoves, cooking equipment and water made the hike very accessible for anyone put off by the prospect of a really heavy pack. The hot bucket shower at the end of Day 2 was a nice cherry on top. I’d like to call out the ranger at our last night’s hut - Jacinta. Her geographic, historic and scientific knowledge was top notch and her enthusiasm and passion for the park, the hike and her role was second to none. Such a great person to have speak to the group after a long day 3!

At the start of the hike was a boat trip that dropped you off on a beautiful beach - the best start! The hike itself had the most beautiful scenery and views, from looking out into the ocean, climbing the Blade and hiking through a rainforest. It was very clear to navigate with board walks and clearly marked paths. Getting to the huts after each day was a pleasure - they had rooms of 2 bunk beds (4 beds) and plenty of hooks inside and outside the rooms for your things. The communal spaces were very tidy and big - 2 rooms with tables, hobs, pots, pans etc. Also, there were warm showers at hut 2!!! Rangers at the huts were also super helpful. Jacinta at hut 3 was wonderful and super knowledgeable! They’d give weather updates and what to expect from the hike the following day. Super cool!

We did this walk as a group of nine people and absolutely loved it! Great views and bush and interesting walking. Story seats are scattered along the path where you can learn about the bush. Walks are not too challenging and not all of it is with a pack. The walk starts at Port Arthur Historic Site, where you catch a ferry around the bay to Denmans Cove. Be prepared to get out in cold water, but it was quite nice for me as the air was -2 degrees with horizontal rain, so water felt warm. Best Cape: Cape Hauy Highlights: The Blade, Totem Pole, Mount Fortescue Favourite Day: Day 4 - Retakunna Hut to Fortescue Bay Best Story Seat: Once Apon a Time Huts: Surveyors, Munro, Retakunna Visit in warmer weather, but not completely dry.
