I booked a day return trip to Bruny Island, departing in the morning and coming back in the evening, and the entire experience was smooth and pleasant from start to finish. The online booking process was simple and straightforward, making it very easy to plan the trip in advance.

The ticket price was reasonable, and it was great to see that students receive a discount, which made it even better value for money. The waiting time before boarding the ferry was short—about 15 minutes, which was quite efficient considering how busy the service can get.

The staff were friendly, polite, and helpful, assisting passengers with clear directions and maintaining a professional yet relaxed atmosphere. The ferry itself was comfortable, and the journey offered beautiful views of the surrounding water and coastline. Our ferry ride to Bruny Island was smooth and enjoyable—a great start to our trip!

However, we had an odd interaction while driving onto the ferry. As the driver, I was fully focused on following the staff’s guidance, while my mom, sitting in the passenger seat, was holding her phone to record the experience. She was simply capturing the moment, as any passenger might do, and wasn’t aiming her camera at the staff intentionally.

Despite this, we were repeatedly reminded, “It’s not nice recording people.” We completely understand the importance of privacy, but her behavior didn’t seem to warrant that reaction. Perhaps a clear “No Filming” or “No Photography” sign could help set expectations for everyone.

I received a request to review the SeaLink Bruny Island Service. I suppose I can give an open and honest opinion as a Bruny landholder, as I have travelled to and from the island over the past 14 years at least a couple of times a week in all sorts of weather and conditions. The previous ferry operator faced a challenge as the island became more popular and the transition to SeaLink was welcomed by many locals. Since the change, SeaLink and their fantastic team have developed the service into a world-class ferry operation. During busy periods both the land-side and sea-going staff remain calm, vigilant, polite and helpful. Waiting times have been reduced as has confusion over loading of vehicles, particularly for visitors unfamiliar with the system.
