A great display of items relevant to RAAF activity in the Riverina during WW2 and in latter years, of RAAF Base Wagga Wagga as a training centre for all things in the technical side of aviation. RAAF Base Wagga Wagga is the home of 1RTU, the recruit training unit for the RAAF. It is also home of the Training School for aviation technicians for the three services and there are displays showcasing work these trainees have done. The Heritage Centre is open Saturday through Thursday from 10am until 4pm and entry is free. At this time sales of souvenirs and other items require cash payment. I notice in an earlier review there was mention of the Beaufighter cockpit being on display but unfortunately this has been forwarded to the Australian Aviation Museum in Darwin. In it's place there is now a scale model of a Boeing 707 and a flight simulator which visitors are...

Wagga’s RAAF Base was established south-east of the city in 1940 and to this day hosts six units, including the headquarters of the Royal Australian Air Force College.

This is the last of what used to be a network of bases in the Riverina Region.

The heritage centre, documenting the history of the RAAF and its links to the Riverina Region, opened in an old guardhouse in 1995 and was given a major update just over a decade ago.

Belonging to the base there’s a small collection of early jets, among them a Gloster Meteor, a CAC Cabre, an English Electric Canberra, a Dassault Mirage III and a General Dynamics F-111. Inside you can peruse tons of RAAF artefacts, from recreated quarters to ration packs, musical instruments, uniforms, pennants, a Bristol Beaufighter cockpit, engines...

A nice place to stop by and to learn about our air force planes serving and served so far and brief history behind them. Furthermore, once you get in the heritage museum which by the is free entry, you can learn even more about not only the planes but history of air force and some amazing facts. Just keep in mind that gift shop there only accepts cash so be mindful of that. Overall a good place to stop by and see how local volunteers helping to run and preserve this incredible part of Australia air...

I have driven past this museum all these years and never once stopped but gave it a go this time. Well worth a stop on any road trip as it is free and run by volunteers. I noticed on previous reviews that it was mentioned they weren't open as stated. I have clarified that they open everyday 10-4 except Fridays. The planes are well maintained and the inner museum is full of history and insights. I even bought a Sluban model kit as I was leaving. Great for the Legacy charity and for a kids present.

Fantastic little museum with great history of the RAAF Wagga and 31SQN. The volunteers at the museum were very helpful and informative as the two on duty, Bob and Bob, were veterans and had some great stories about their service in the RAAF. Worth stopping in for a look and chat. They have souvenirs for sale (cash only) plus have some freebies as well such as all Defence service newspapers and stickers.
